Finchy stirring the pot!

JUST when Eels fans thought they needed no extra ammunition ahead of tonight's clash with Melbourne Storm, former halfback Brett Finch declared: "You don't deserve our title."

The Storm will play their first match on Sydney soil since the cap-rorting scandal stunned the league world, cost the club its 2007 and 2009 premierships, as well as any chance of playing for a competition point this season.

Eels fans are ready to unleash 80 minutes of verbal hell - club chief executive Paul Osborne was forced this week to call for peace in the stands - but Finch said nothing would upset the visitors. He went one further and said the hostility would only add to the theatre.

"What can they say that's worse than 'cheats'? We've heard it's going to be hostile and there will be posters and chants," Finch said.

"If anything, it makes it more exciting for us to play. We've got nothing to play for, so the better the atmosphere will only help us. It's actually quite funny at times to see how berserk fans get.

"I played for Parra, I know how passionate they are and understand why some of the fans are quite angry, but that's the way it goes and it's something we have to cop during the year.

"I don't think they deserve it [the 2009 premiership] but that's only my opinion, and people have their own opinions."

Go get him Fui..!! Run at him all night long..

I mean It's true we haven't played this year as if we are worthy premiership contenders (over 50% of our games), but we sure as hell did last year, until the Melbourne Cheetahs beat us on the last hurdle with the obvious advantage of not having to comply with the salary cap rules.

  • "You dont deserve our title", Hollow words from a club that had those titles stripped.

Brett Finch is a loud mouthed turd, living in the public eye in an attempt to justify his existence !
  • Obviously the little man is still hurting from being shown the door last year and knowing that if he was still in the side we wouldn't have made it to the GF last year.

I hope Parra turn up tonight with their very best game and absolutely belt the Storm.
  • I read in the paper that Parra are still paying him 50k as part of the deal last year to leave.

That's more than we should have ever paid him full stop!
    • OMG, I can't believe that!

      Here's that information..

Melbourne player is braced for verbal fireworks at Parramatta Stadium tonight, but we can almost guarantee Brett Finch's ears will be ringing loudest with taunts from furious Eels fans.

Finch, however, will again have the last laugh - and he won't stop chortling for at least another 12 months.

Footy Confidential can reveal that Finch is still on Parramatta's payroll, thanks to an agreement struck with the club when he left in shock circumstances last April.

Eels CEO Paul Osborne yesterday confirmed he's still obliged to pay Finch $50,000 a season until the end of 2011 as a result of the settlement reached by the previous administration.

"He's still on our books until the end of next season - he's part of our second tier salary cap," Osborne said.

The greatest irony of this whole tale is that Finch's wage was also being subsidised by Parramatta on October 4 last year - the day he returned to haunt his old club in the grand final.

Finch won't get another chance to play a decider this season, but his options for 2011 are growing through some top-notch form in his last hurrah at the Storm.

The mooted $300,000 salary cap increase has arrived as a godsend for Finch's hopes to stay in the NRL, where he was already being courted by Newcastle.

We can now reveal both the Bulldogs and the Sharks have since shown interest. Incoming Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan is a Finch fan and the former NSW No. 6 is seen as a perfect replacement for skipper Trent Barrett should the ageing Sharks playmaker call it quits.
  • I actually still like Finchy, I wish there were more characters like him in the game. Better than the usual "It's just another game for us, so we need to put in 110% to get the win". Tell it like it is I say.
    • Yeah same here, I like him too................ that is, I like to hate him!

He and any other Melbourne player can't say anything about Parra not deserving the title...

Tell it like it is?? is he going around saying they dont deserve the title? or that they are a bunch of cheats? because that would be telling it like it is!!
  • stuff him lets go out 2nite and prove we deserve it.
    GO PARRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I agree - EeLmatic. I LOVE Finchy.

He has guts, he is tough, always gives 100% and adds that little bit of fire you wish that all your players have.

I thought I was the only one devastated when he went to the Storm....
    • Sure, he has guts and determination.. And yes, he can be some-what tough and does give 100% a lot of the times.. But I still feel he is way overrated.

IMO, the only positive he has done is kick that field goal in SOO.

He has one good game out of a million, and changes teams like dirty undies.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the guy or anything, but he just frustrates me every time I see him play..

While he was at Parra I did cheer and clap for him, but I was always waiting for his mistakes, waiting for that next brain-snap.

But at the end of the day, your just too kind TB! It doesn't seem like you dislike many players.. and full credit to you.. Not many ppl out there like you, you show faith in those that most don't...
      • I like Finchy too. I hate programmed sports people.... swimmers are the worst.

Don't think he's overated though because he cops more cristicism than anyone.
