Finals home match protocol

I don't want to get ahead of myself but I'm curious. IF the Eels get a home quarter final, do we get to decide where we host the match, or do the NRL decide for us? I know in ages past the club was always allowed to keep it at home, but correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't the NRL now taken control of where all finals matches are played?

  • There are conditions on what grounds can and cannot be used.

Unless things have changed (and i know clubs were pushing for one) smaller grounds like Brookvale amd Shark Park did not meet conditions for finals football so Sydney teams would need to pjay out of either ANZ or Alliance.

If those same rules apply BankWest would qualify even if Alliance was still useable.

As that stadium is currently being built you may find the NRL has other sydney teams play out of Bank West or they may take the games there out of their own free will

    • I'm under the impression the NRL will take any finals match to the bigger venue if they think they will get a big crowd. Regardless of who the Eels might play in a home final, we will get a bigger crowd than the 30k capacity at Bankwest if it's taken to ANZ.

  • Can someone tell me if we come 6 place  who do we play do we play the team coming 5 or 8

    • We would play 7. 5 plays 8.

    • How don’t you know this

    • If we  get 6th we will play at bankwest stadium and play the team who finishes 7th

        • This

It's more likely they'd want games there rather then away from Bankwest. If they had made the finals the tigers, dogs and panthers would all have been made to play ar Bankwest. Unless ticket sales force a move any Parra home final will be at bankwest.

  • There has to be a protocol set in stone somewhere. It's totally bullshit if the NRL says 'oh, we'll make the decision when we get there and it depends on who you play'.

    • It is yes . So no team qualifying for such has guaranteed home game ? Sounds rubbish but I suppose in many cases teams 5 and 6 are still better off if not playing on opponents ground .

  • If we get a home final it’ll be at BankWest no doubt about it.
