Felise Kaufusi -Why didn't we chase harder

This guy would have been exceptional, unfortunately resigned with current club ... don't make me say it as I can't cop em lol

Makes you wonder though as his club would not have offered top dollar, why we didn't get into this fight for his signature. But love the last paragraph.

Felise Kaufusi has extended his stay in Melbourne with a two-year contract extension, agreeing to terms that include a two-year player option in his favour.

Rumoured to be on the radar of a number of clubs, the 26-year-old publicly declared it was always his desire to commit to Melbourne after forging a successful early career.

He played every game in the Storm's 2017 premiership campaign where he was rewarded as the club's most improved player and more importantly a Kangaroos call-up at the World Cup.We are very happy to have re-signed Felise for a further two seasons, he is an important part of our retention strategy,'' Storm director of football Frank Ponissi siad.

"Felise has worked very hard to cement himself in the starting side, the challenge now for Felise and our next generation group of players is to continue to apply the same work ethic to help the club strive for continued success.

  • Maybe we did but if you had a choice between a proven top 4 team, year on year premiership contenting team, or a wooden spoon team where players go to see their career die, where would you go?
  • You could list a dozen decent forwards we didn't chase.

  • I would assume he is happy there and tbh they have lost some players so he would have got a decent contract. On this it does seem that melb and others keep the contract $$$$$ quiet.....

  • CP I don't believe we were in the chase, on here rumour's are rife and when someone says we are interested in a player it stands to reason that where there's smoke there's fire but not a peep mate, which is disappointing - our recruitment stinks

  • Why Mutt ... it's beyond me we didn't, surely we are not after another busted.

Fair dinkum my brain hurts when I think of what we got, what we let go and the potentials we just snubbed.

  • Mitchy I hear what your'e saying but seriously mate at least this club should have a dig.

    They can't keep them all.

    • I agree they cannot keep them all but they have moved on a few fwds and Cronk. Eel4ever i would NFI who our club is after as it seems at times to be hush; i take 90% of rumours as false. Just my take. I heard we inquired about Nelson too but would not know, and would assume Melb would not let him go.....who knows mate.

      • I know Mitchy it's just baffling how a club like ours, with all the resources can be so dysfunctional for so long.

  • I think we are better than we were in 2016; and don't forget the NRL did not tell us about our cap for a while back then. That hurt us. We have been hamstrung imo from prior boards due to cap and club etc and the governance issues.

I would assume BA would have a hit list of who he wants to purchase etc. I watched Sterlo other night on his show and he made a fair point that parra should not be throwing in the towel so to speak this early in season but looking at improving their position while looking at players as well. It is hard to take as a fan but i could see what he was saying.

Could our retention have been better last season? yes but who was there to buy? we did get Moses but the prop availability did not come up with much and Woods was done mid year too; and Packer is on v v high coin imo.

    • I agree with all youv'e said, but take into consideration what the Warriors just did - they hired Sullivan who is a bit of a rogue but a very astute recruitment manager. We've lacked the smarts to fill this role professionally since Cleal.

Speaks volumes as to how we operate .... poorly
