Fan Acknowledgement and Engagement

I'm really interested in people's opinions on this. People who are familiar with my blogs know that I focus on positives. Fan acknowledgement is an important part of fan engagement. Forget some of the bells and whistles. For me Parra started the era of fan engagement through pilgrimages to the old SCG hill. We saw shades of it at the 2009 GF qualifier against the Dogs when the players went to the blue and gold crowd section after the game to acknowledge the fans. How good were those scenes? We used to be real leaders in this type of fan acknowledgement. Now, after great home wins the players separate and throw out some mini footballs. We don't get to see how much the wins mean to them. I find this anti-climactic at a time when I'm really pumped up after a game. To me, if the players came together as a group to acknowledge the value of the crowd after a game, it would be a simple and effective way of tapping into our energy after the game. I think it would be a great way to end each match day experience. This is not a criticism of the players as this football into the crowd stuff is a choreographed requirement of the team. Please forget the mini football garbage. That's my rant. So over to everyone else. When you're at the game, would you like to see the players come towards the crowd as a group after the game? Or do you want a 17 in 20000 chance of getting a mini footy?

  • Yeah we stuck around after the game, like we do every game, hoping for a team lap of honour, but it didn't happen. It's always nice to thank the players to their face and to just feel 'part of the team'
    • We wait too, hoping it will change. I just don't get the point of what we do with these trinkets tossed to fans. It always looks good when teams acknowledge fans as a team.
  • Been bitching about this for years sixties no acknowledgement of the fans whatsoever, and if that's the best entertainment they can come up with it wasn't worth keeping it a secret what a joke

  • And the choreographed mini footies take them away from each other. It's not the players, it's the commitments of routine
  • I agree 60s.

Though not able to go to any games on the account of me living OS, it means a lot when the team collectively thanks the fans. I have been to a few K-League games where players thank fans in a North, South, East, West manner.

Perhaps you could bring your point up with Larissa?

  • I don't mind what they do now. The players that are able to go across to the fans and clap them for coming out and cheering. I don't expect them to come around and shake the hands of every fan hanging over the side at every game, that stuff is reserved for milestone matches, final match of the season, finals games even if we lose.

The mini-footys are alright, I caught a full sized one last year in the first round and have kept it and if I catch a mini one this year I'll give it to one of the kids that sit around me. After all that sort of stuff is more about them. It's better than a few years ago when there'd be 1 or 2 players that would come across and thank the fans for coming out.

  • It would be good if they did a rendition of the team song on the field after the game - complete with garbage bins, pots, drumsticks etc.

  • Don't players sign jerseys after the game. Outside the dressing sheds.

Parra fan on The Hill replied to Roy tannous's discussion Eels offering Jordan samrani
"I really like Samrani but if JR decides to give him up for MB I think that is a massive mistake.
IMO Samrani should be 1st drop for either centre/ wing if one of our starters is out. Brian Kelly is bog average and not going to get better.
