Faith in our Coach

People familiar with my blogs know that I'm a huge fan of BA. I have watched him in action at training, as I have with previous Parramatta coaches. At the moment there is a wave of criticism against Arthur, and people are certainly entitled to an opinion. However, there are certain things that I can attest to and I'd like to offer them for consideration.1. Team selection. This has been difficult at times. When a player is selected you must take into account whether there are better alternatives, the job the player needs to do in that game, are they smart enough for that position in first grade, is their fitness level sufficient for first grade, have they earned the right to play NRL?If we were to run out a first grade team based on the opinions of fans, their would be some strange selections. Do I agree with all of BA's decisions? No, but the moment a fan dictates who plays is the moment the club is in trouble. Nobody knows the capability of a player as well as the coach.2. Tactics. I've watched the team train and there are things that they train for that I don't see executed in a game. This would be the bane for all coaches. So what is a coach to do? Refer to point 1 if certain players are at fault. Furthermore, you continue to train hard to get it right and you look to recruit if you don't think your current squad can execute as required.3. Recruitment. Significant signings have been made already. A player of Foran's quality is a rare calibre of player to recruit and BA is responsible for that. Scott is now on board. More signings are imminent. Trust me. By next year the squad will be a reflection of BA's vision of an NRL team.4. Man management. This is BA's strength. He is respected and loved by the players. Make no mistake, he'll tell the players what he thinks when he's not happy. Go to a training session and listen!5. Dealing with the loss of Hayne. How many of you doubted whether we could win a single game without him? Imagine the Cowboys coping without their Dally M player! How many would they win?Let me conclude by encouraging others to watch a training session. Most recently I've stood with Chris and Al at training. I now Chief will be going to one soon. Watch the coach in action to help you form an opinion. I'm sticking solid because I know we have a high calibre coach.

    • You mean the 5 year plan that was on its way to 10 year plan?

  • Mate I think he is the right man for the job. I still think we can make a play for the 8 .. With darcy,jp, semi, tepai to come back incoming weeks we will put a few wins together ..
  • Point 5 cannot be underestimated. Cowboys wouldn't win jack without Thurston, the fact that we're competitive is a great testament to our progress. Have faith people.
    • I agree totally

    • Well said Benedict I with you 100%.

  • Have faith. I know I'm a broken record on this but the team will come good in 2015 and next year we are gonna have an awesome year. We haven't hit the halfway mark for this season yet. That said, I woke up this morning hoping last night's loss was a bad dream.
  • I'll be sticking solid with BA but the guys who dont rate him raise some fair questions regarding his ability as coach, theres no doubt he has a few areas to work on but so do all newer coaches to 1st grade.

BA has plenty of qualities that have impressed me as a bloke and coach but its a bit harder to judge a coach than a player imo, especially a fairly green one like BA,and we dont see the behind the scenes stuff that influences BAs descisions, one things for sure, we will know mid year next year if BA is the goods, im backing he will prove a few doubters wrong but he could also prove themselves right, the jury is out till mid season next year thats unless we are an embarrassing failure this year which we certainly are not that.

  • Couldn't agree more sixties. I think most will agree that -

Stage 1 BA has improved-our forward strength phisically and through recruitment, to the point where we are equal, if not better than most opposition packs. - Scott, Jnr P and Edwards coming in will give our pack the edge.

Stage 2.Foz will strengthen our halves.

Stage 3. Hayne's sudden unexpected departure is no quick fix - BA is currently in negotiations with 2 outside backs, confirmed by Scott Seward.
    • I think Seward said one centre and one centre/fullback.

"Some players need to get sacked from a club and risk losing it all before they really knuckle down and put in the work.  Why did he get sacked, was it lack of discipline for footy and training or off field issues?"
