Fa'aoso - Eels between rock and hard place

As just about everybody knows Richie has successfully overcome a broken neck to return to the NRL.The Eels had to jump through many hoops to please insurance and the NRL, before Richie could take the field. The NRL are cracking down on concussed players. Introduce mandatory concussion tests.Richie's first game back, he gets knocked out within 5 minutes and cannot return to play again that game.Richie jokes about at training suggesting the only way to avoid the concussion test is to pretend you have some other injury eg come up clutching your leg.NRL teams are concerned that the replacements may be taken advantage of. Parramatta have previously been fined by the NRL for not taking the proper time required for concussion testing.Today Richie get injured in a tackle, comes out clutching his arm. What do the Eels do? Do they call it a concussion replacement and do the concussion tests or do they assume he isn't concussed and has a shoulder injury? As the Eels have a duty to insurance (with Richie's history) and the NRL procedures, they call it a concussion and replace him.Prepare for the fallout this week.

  • Richie should just retire
  • In my opinion I think he should be playing for wenty for at least 3 weeks before even being considered. He so far has been injured in 2 games and wasted an interchange and bench spot and he should be eased in. We all know nsw cup is a lower intensity so he needs to be able to handle that for a month before being considered for first grade and even then we have to be very careful what role he plays. I actually think he has a tackling technique problem apart from today which looked like an accident with his own players.
  • Because he is liked but players and coaching staff Richie seems to be picked week in week out. Nothing special IMO
  • He done well, but we don't need that kind of player.
  • Ordinary player even before his neck injury!
    • yeah, I thought he would have made more of an impact.

    • Watched this bloke for years mate they reckon it's in his contracts that if he doesn't drop a ball in a game they will pay him a 20000 dollar bonus at seasons end none of his previous clubs have had to worry about it.
  • Bit harsh by some. The guy has basically been out as long as Hoppa was and with a very serious injury. He has been thrown into the deep end, straight into FG off one NSW Cup game. I think he can give us something but more as a depth player. Currently he has been rushed in due to Jnr being suspended, Lussick being on the outer, Edwards out for the season. I see him as a player we can call on if we need a bench player in future i.e if Wicks is injured we bring Fa'aoso up from Wenty for 20-30mins. At the moment he is having to gain match fitness and form at the highest level and battling concussions.
    • You make some good points. I forgot how Edwards is out. He was one of my favorite players last year, as he put so much effort into each game.

  • Nothing against Richie, but at the moment he is a liability and should be playing for wenty until he has match fitness and his confidence back. BA needs to bite the bullit and admit he made a mistake and drop crab and De Goisoff the bench. A bad Pauli and Moeroa offer more than these 2. He should be playing the best 17 at his disposal even Lussick if he is leaving. Not to play his best players is cutting your nose off to spite your face, just dumb. Seffa is not fg material and De Gois is taking up a space where you could have Pauli on giving more impact in attack and go forward and Moeroa would stiffen the defence and give us more go forward in attack. Peats is our best dumby half and should play 80 in that position and both De Gois and crab offer nothing and needs to go back to wenty.

"Guymer is a younger version of what de Belin is here for. Cleaning up the middle with 2nd and 3rd man in attempts, get through work and do your share in attack. Guymer can definately do that."

"Yep agree. Though clubs like Canberra and Brisbane do it and did well, i just do not like it. I don't mind doing what BA did in between 2020-2022, where he would have Mahoney play 80 each week but then around Round 8-10 he would bring in like…"
