Expectations on Poore

Howdy all,

just wondering if Justin Poore is paying a heavy price from Parra fans with the injury to Shane Shackleton?

Parra out lay close to the $500 K for the pair of them, Shackleton is injured in the 1st game, out indefinitely leaving Poore solely in the spot light as they key signing.

I wonder if Shackleton was playing whether Poore would be criticised as much?

Will the same befall Shackleton when he returns?

  • I think Poore came with a reputation and he is yet to live up to it. He was playing Origin last year. This year there's more chance of Tim Mannah being picked than Poore being picked. I think as fans we were hopeful that the big name would come and play as our best prop. He hasn't done that this year.

I do think he is on the up though. He is playing really well as a bench prop and when Cayless and Fui go off we lose very little. That's what you need as a team. He is becoming a useful part of the bigger picture.
  • I've heard at least one person each week on this forum for the last almost 5 weeks saying it was his best game of the year.
Hes looking up and adapting to our style of play
    • Spot on Joshua. I noted with interest him rushing up out of the line to put on big hits against the Storm - something he hadn't done prior in an Eels jersey; and I also liked seeing him running supporting other forward hit ups thereby forcing the defense into making a decision who to tackle.
  • I agree with Joshua he was used to the Dragons style of play which is very different from the Mighty's Eels
    • I think Poore is doing well. He probably isn't used to coming off the bench and is starting to fit in now, I am happy with his form. I think he should work on developing an offload though, everyone else has an offload in their game, hopefully with time he can work on it.
  • I loved it last week when the Poore factor done the big sideways/backwards 20 metre sprint. Was good comic relief in an otherwise tense match.
  • You may be right Hugh but the way is see it is.....

Poore is on a hiding to nothing... He's a 250K prop on 350K or maybe more... It's not his fault Parra payed overs for him. If you pay a player twice what they are worth don't expect their peformaces to be twice as good.

I can't explain why some players have their careers lined in $$, gold and positive headlines..... Civoneciav for example is a good prop. But I am 99% sure he has been at the helm when ricky and bennet lost the world cup/trinations (or whatever it was)... He was also at the helm when QLD had some pretty big lossed in the early naughties..... He lived in Webcke's shadow for a long time and when Webcke retired, Price has been twice the player Civ has been. Civ is a better than good player, but he is nowhere near as good as the media makes out he is.... There is plenty of examples of him asleep at the wheel during big matches..... he plays well when things around him are going well, but when the tables are turned he goes into hiding.
    • You must be watching a different game then me, Civoneciva has been in the the top handful of props for nearly 10 years now. Plenty have played well for 1 or 2 seasons, but there is no one that has been at the top for as long as him.
  • Does this mean that Shackleton will endure the same treatment from fans?

i wouldnt be surprised if Poore plays out of skin next year and becomes the one of the top props - not having the media attention or pressure of fans.
  • I hope that Justin does really well next year. He has had a slow year but look at Timmy, he didn't set the world on fire last year but this year he hasn't looked back. Now you guys are gonna say 'But it was Timmy's first year'. Well it's Poore's first year at Parra and we should stick with him whether he makes 200m or whether he makes 20m
