Ever have a 2nd team?

Just wondering during the dark years of 87-96ish for the blue and gold's, did any of you guys barrack for a 2nd team? I am and always will be Parra thru and thru but I sort of jumped on the Raider's ride to glory around 88-89. I would always barrack for Parra when we played the Raider's but we were never a chance of giving the comp a shake during these years. The fact that the 'Dogs were still successful and the Raider's were 1 of few teams that regularly gave them a run for there money was a factor, and their electric backline of Stuart, Daley, Meninga, Belcher, Ferguson, and co. reminded me of our great backiline of the early 80's. Although I think Ricky Stuart is a right royal twat now. Any of you guys have similar followings during our depressing era of limited success?

  • there is no such thing as a second team if you are a full blooded supporter of one team
  • I AM a "full blooded" Parra fan! But alot of people barrack for other teams when their team isn't a chance of finals football. This isn't that uncommon. I'm sure you've found yourself yelling at the TV when Parra aren't playing. Totally disagree with what you say, didn't mean to offend you now.....
  • Guilty confessions. I will admit to cheering the last handful of Manly tries when they beat us 64-12 way back. It was either that or cry. Parra actually got cheered off the ground that day - showing that league fans have strong sense of irony.
PS: my mother thought i was serious and made me walk home!!
    • Haha nice! Your mother has brought you up well! Yeah I was none too happy when the Raiders flogged us 68-12 (or so) at Canberra in 93 i think it was. The fact I admired their team at the time made it bearable but I would have muched rather the scoreline reversed. Stuart actually broke his leg during that demolition.. so there was an upside to the flogging ( sorry Ricky)
  • I can't really get that heavily into supporting another team but from time to time I have had been able to tolerate other teams because of a nice attacking style or something. This team tends to change every few years though for example I didn't mind the Dragons when they first merged because of all their good state of origin attacking players, now I feckin can't stand them.

    • Yeah I see your point. The Raider's do nothing for me now but there are definitely a few teams that I like more than others. Nothing would make me barrack for the 'Dogs against anyone!
  • I will ONLY ever "GO" for my beloved PARRAMATTA EELS as they are my no.1 team, ALWAYS. In saying that, I've always regarded wests magpies as my 2nd & cronulla as my 3rd team since I was a 10 y.o BUT they are not my team!. There are teams you like & teams you hate but I don't think you should GO for 2 or more teams as you would not be a true supporter of your club! p.s I can't stand people who dump a team when they are not winning.
    • I agree. Just like the maggies the Raiders were my 2nd team and I never got off the Eels during the bad times. Just clarifying things here....... I don't think there are too many people who love Parra as much as myself and my entire family...... My initial questions were; Was there are team you barracked for when the Eels (my team, your team, everyone on this forum's team forever no matter what) weren't doing so great and we were out of finals contention. 2nd team means exactly that, a team to support AFTER Parra, a team that you admired and gave you satisfaction and joy in watching them beat other teams? Was there a team with players you admired as I did the great Raider's sides of that era? Sheez! I feel like i'm in the witness box here being cross-examined by Judge Judy! :)
  • no and never will , guess ill be waiting another 24 years and be old tp win the title
