Evans determined to improve on Club debut

The Parramatta Eels are preparing to take on the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in Round Two of the NRL Telstra Premiership.

After suffering a disappointing loss to the Panthers in Round One, where the Blue & Gold suffered a defeat that saw the opposition score 24 unanswered points, Blue & Gold forward Kane Evans says the side were put through an honest video session this week with Head Coach Brad Arthur.

“It was a pretty solid session from the coach but the way he handled it was awesome. He had individual video reviews with us before we went into the team one and we knew what was coming.” Evans said.

“Robbo has had some solid video sessions, he is scary too. I think all coaches are scary.”

“At the end of the first half and the start of the second half, when us middles came on, we lost momentum for the team and we started playing reactive footy rather than front foot footy.” He added.

“We were trying to make up for what we were losing, so we just have to stay on the front foot no matter what happens and even if the momentum turns, keep hunting and not back peddling.”

Evans had an honest review of his own performance, saying he had much to improve from his Club debut.

“I think the build up got to me. Physically I prepared the best I could but mentally I cooked myself. I could see myself in the review, out there running around but in my own mind rather than being in the moment.”

“It was disappointing for me and I hope the fans aren’t too angry. It’s the start of the season but we have a long way to go.”

“It can’t go worse than last week for me. That is probably the worst start you can get at a new Club but I’m staying confident, still preparing and will just try and not over complicate and overthink it.” Evans added.

Evans knows he will learn from the Round One run.

“I had a lot of head noise and I have to not buy into that and stay present.  I think it was easy, with everything going on in life, footy, family and by debut for the Club you can get caught up in it.” Evans said.

“I thought I would be over that by now but it is a lesson that I will learn from it.”

“Coming to a new Club you want to earn the respect of your peers and players but after that game I don’t think I did. I just have to pull my head in.” he added.

“Even though my pre-season was shorter, I still did everything I could in that time to prepare my best, I just have to execute on the day.”

The Eels will kick off against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in Round Two of the NRL Telstra Premiership at Lottoland, Brookvale on Sunday 18 March. Kick off at 4:10pm.
