PARRAMATTA centre Esi Tonga faces a two-year ban from Queensland State of Origin selection after going missing during a Maroons' emerging squad camp at the weekend.

Esi, younger brother of Queensland centre and Parramatta teammate Willie, failed to show for the final session of the Brisbane camp a Sunday morning run conducted by emerging squad chief Wayne Bennett.

The 13 squad members had dined at Kangaroo Point's Story Bridge Hotel on Saturday and were told to report back to their motel at southside Nathan by a set time.

Tonga was the only player not to meet the curfew.

Yesterday, Maroons coach Mal Meninga and Queensland Rugby League chief executive Rob Moore were still in the dark about Tonga's movements.

"We must give Esi the opportunity to explain things but I can confirm he missed the session," Moore told The Daily Telegraph."It's not out of the ordinary, in situations like this, for strict disciplinary measures to be taken. We take such matters very seriously, whether they occur at under-15 level or in the emerging squad.

"The conversion rate of these (emerging) players into Origin players is very high and we demand high standards."

Meninga planned to talk to Tonga last night and Moore said until the player gave his side of the story, it was premature to talk of sanctions.

But it is believed Tonga, 24 next month, could face up to two years in the Origin wilderness.

The Logan Brothers junior was back training with Parramatta yesterday along with Chris Sandow, the other Eel in the emerging squad.

The Ken has sorted it all out and told Esi that next time he needs to drink from the mini bar like the rest of the boys instead of staying out all night. Problem solved.

  • I dont think its a good sign for us, he did similar things at the Titans. If the guy cant stay disciplined for short Origin camp with Wayne Bennett i have a feeling it wont be long before he is missing at Parra

  • not good news

  • Anyone with neck tatoo's is going to get in trouble from time to time.

    • are you saying reni's trouble?

  • On one hand it's good that they rate him high enough to include him but on the other it's bad because he's a wild card.

I remember Willie Tonga having off field problems when he was with the bulldogs. Hopefully his brother can be a guiding influence.

    • Ryan Morgan will get the missing centre spot.
Esi needs to sort his shit out! This is parramatta he's playing for!
      Not the titans anymore.
  • Does he have indigenous heritage? If he does, it's part of their culture to go walkabout.

    • See spec savers IMMEDIATELY Dude.

Name and brother a little bit of a hint too.....WOW!

  • A two year ban for getting his end in!

Sounds like my wife is running qld emerging squad :P
