Ernie was a great bloke back then .we had a little ernie wanka fan club at cumberland. his parents sat with us
as ernie mostly played reserve grade if he wasnt needed on the bench for 1sts.he would come sit with us
can see why he would become first class citizen nice guy
Ernie's brother is Leo Wanka and cousin to Copper Maiden.
I know his brother Richard and sister Houda quite well, lovely people.
His American cousin Peggy Wanka (no need to thank her),ended up marrying a loser shoe salesman called Al Bundy.This has to be one of the more unfortunate surnames out there.My dad's boss back in the early 70s was a Mr Fakkas, pronounced F@ck us.
There was the MP from the Newcastle area Richard Face
one of those "with a name like that what else was he ever going to be" names
