PARRAMATTA Eels star Eric Grothe Jr has returned to his home town to show off his childhood stomping ground to Channel 7’s The Matty Johns Show.
The My Home Town segment is a part of the show each week which sends star NRL players back to their home towns for a bit of fun. Grothe, who played for Eaglevale St Andrews Football Club as a child, said he enjoyed the visit.
“A different footy player each week takes you back to where they’re from and we do a bit of poetry about what’s at our home town as if you’re selling it to a tourist,” he said.
“We did about eight different spots, like where I grew up playing football around Eagle Vale, we did the local Raby Tavern, the arts centre, skatepark and Campbelltown Stadium.” Grothe said he didn’t live locally any more but still had strong ties to the Campbelltown region.
“I’ve got mates out at Campbelltown still so I see them regularly but I haven’t lived there for about seven years,” he said.
* The Matty Johns Show will feature Grothe’s My Home Town segment on Thursday at 7.30pm.
