PARRAMATTA winger Eric Grothe is the latest flyer to be linked to a move to Townsville as the Cowboys look to strengthen their outside back ranks.
While there were suggestions Grothe, who missed last night's game for the Eels with a knee injury, could switch to the Cowboys mid-season, that prospect was dismissed by the club's executive director Peter Parr last night.
"Eric's name has been tossed around as one of the guys we might be interested in, but not this year," Parr said."It is an area we are looking to strengthen and there are a lot of options we are exploring."
It is understood Grothe was highlighted as a possible recruitment target by in-form back-rower Willie Mason, who played with Grothe at the Roosters. The move indicates the former Test forward is looking to extend his stay up north after making the most of the lifeline offered by the Cowboys this season.
