Eric Grothe????

Is there any word on Eric Grothe??....he was unlucky enough to have to try and get a new contract while he is off the field injured...he has been good for the eels and is a crowd favourite...I hope the board has done the right thing by him. especially after a blow in like Tahu gets to play terrible all year and and bring nothing but bad press to the club and then get an extension on his contract.

    Yeah i believe he signed for another year.

    He did sign for one more year yes.
    He wanted to repay the club by sticking by him during the injury that kept him out for sometime last year.

    Sweet as...happy with that...I know he has his critics but when he is on he is tough to beat.

    maybe one day he may even learn to defend properly, don't take that wrong I am a Grothe fan but he does sleep in defence alot

    I know he is famous for coming in off the wing...but if anybody has any copied games on DVD....just watch Joel reddy. Reddy was a reserve grade winger and fullback and he actually comes in all the time. On so many occasions Grothe copped the blame but was was just following his centre in field. Even if you watch Inu out on the wing this season with Reddy as his centre....that was our revolving door over that side again. I think that Reddy is actually a big reason that Grothe's contract took so long to be penned.

    Correct Simon. When Reddy first came into Grade he was a real liability in defence and Grothe would cop the blame for Reddy essentially giving him no choice but to come in.

    reddy likes to rush the attack and come up and in on them as he really doesnt have a whole lot of pace. But that is something that a backs coach should be able to help them with!

    I have been saying this for a long time now, Grothe has been around for a while now and his problems in defence only came around the same time Reddy became his centre partner, think back to when Smith was in the centres, Grothe never had the same problems then.

    I actually think the Smith/Grothe combo was one of our best defensive centre/wing combos of say the last 15 years.
