Last year opposition teams picked us apart on the edges on a regualr basis because our marker defence in the backline was so regularly poor.
Mainly due to poor communication. As the season progressed they improved this part of their game with some positive results.
During the earlier part of this season too it looked like they had finally eliminated this error in their game.
But then the same problem was there for all to see in the games against the Cowboys, the Bulldogs and now Souths.
All three teams picked us apart in the backline. Poor numbering up You would think they would have learnt after the Cowboys game.
It's a fundamental rule taught to kids at an early age. "Number off and mark your opposite man."
All players in the backline from Gutho to Moses and out to Sivo have to make sure this happens. But why isn't this happening is the question.
The fact that Brad Arthur told his team at half time last night "They were playing well" seems to say it all. Sure the forwards did run hard, but virtually no
offloads and there was no cohesion in the backline.
Arthur talks about physicallity. And that seems to be there. But he does not seem to be abe to get the team to put all aspects of their gane together on a regular basis.
What is even more dissapointing is the fact they had two weeks to get it right.

Bush coach has to go, its as simple as that. Sick of him criticizing the players in his presser, according to him he is never accountable. BA,s can't even solve the problem with our putrid wide defense. Both sides, it has to be on him. Its been 9 years.
They are the players Brad has hand picked.
Its obvious its the systems within the defense, its the way they are trained. Both sides, wingers & centres rush up and take bad options. They are trained to do it. Souths will tear us apart every time. Its on Arthur.
The overall attacking tactics were disastrous in those conditions. We played pressure passing into the line putting the receiver under massive pressure.
Souths played before the line safely and strategically
All i can say is the quicker ba ducks off the better because a major overall is needed
Agree Chief, even with more coaching support BA doesn't have the coaching smarts to get the job done - last night was an important game especially against a team that's owned us for a long period. The game plan falls apart real quick under pressure, even with more coaching staff BA lack of attention to detail standout - I can't remember a coach that's hasn't won title given so much time to prove his worth! BA was won the lottery with the guilable eels...all ties need to be cut and BA sacked
It's a results driven business, theres no reason to persist with BA
*** crickets ***
it's almost as if BA coached Moses to throw a game defining intercept .
How can these players be so beyond approach on this site ? Anyone who thinks Moses , Brown and Ma-phoney , were remotely anywhere near a pass mark last night is simply cooked. In fact I'll go,out and say the only one that turned up last night from our senior group was Gutherson. Other than him and Lane the rest should've been made to face the presser.
Right now , I'm really wishing Moses would activate his get out clause so we can go after Munster. But could you imagine the deal our club would offer . We'd sign him on a 5 year deal with a player option every 6 months.
Although Souths dominated upfront, Moses especially went missing after the Gutho try and that stupid tip on pass wasn't on - any decent halfback takes control and steers the team around especially after wrestling back momentum midway through the first half.
Wiz I started a blog 2 weeks ago about getting Munster and only a couple of people (including yourself) agreed with me.
Anyone who thinks we win a comp with this playing group and coaching staff is delusional.
The titans will win a comp before us
It isn't that people didn't agree with you re Munster (I've said on here he is arguably the best player in the competition), it's just not going to happen - ever.
