Enjoyed the game, but the food...

Good win last night, even if we did try hard to give it away towards the end. Its always good to go to the game- I took the wife and two kids along as well. There was only a modest crowd there- it was cold, it threatened to rain, it was an out of town opposition and it was the start of a long weekend so it's understandable to a degree that numbers were down. However, to get more people to the game the administrators could work on a few things:1. The food available is truly appalling. The choice near us was between overpriced, lukewarm greasy chips ($7.50), Pluto pups, chiko rolls or pies. My wife kept her pie wrapper as evidence in case she got sick. Coming straight from work and hungry, the offerings were not very appealing. How hard is it to get a few food stalls going outside with maybe kebabs, gosleme or a decent steak sandwich.2. The ground announcer: if we must have some over-excited adolescent screaming through the mike to fire us up it would be best if what he was saying was intelligible. It can't be hard to have a loudspeaker system with less distortion, or to get someone with a voice that wasn't quite so strident.3. Info on the game: I shouldn't have to listen to the radio to find out what is going on down the other end of the field. I have never understood why the ref isn't miked up more. He may make a brief hand signal, often not seen, but he could just announce the reason for a penalty etc more often. It brings the crowd in to the game more.I feel better now for this little rant. To pay a lot for some very average tickets, to have only the choice of lousy pricey food and to be screamed at by the announcer is not maximising the incentive for we Parra faithful to attend.Just as well we won.

  • Hit the Firehouse before or after the game. Pizzas and Pastas are good. With a Leagues Club membership you get 20% off. Depends on kick off but for 2pm, 3pm or 5:30pm I go to the Firehouse after the game. For 7pm or 7:30pm kick offs I'll eat before kick off. Full pizza and a few beers and I'm right to get through the entire match.

The ground announcer has been like that for as long as I can remember. Surprisingly the referee's voice came through clear when he went to the video referee late in the game.

  • It's my pet hate. Food and drink is so easy to fix at the stadium. The ground management just take The Eels for granted. They couldn't do a worse job of the food if they tried. Disgrace!!!
    • Ground management tender it to a catering company. Hence why they couldn't care less.

  • I use to enjoy the nachos (this is going back 5-10 years, but I can't seem to find them anymore if they still sell them.
  • This sounds similar to my whinge about NO SAUCE blog at penruff. How the hell do you run out of sauce for hot dogs it's just fekn sauce. Eaten a hot dog without sauce makes you limp rusted. Parra fans are not that way inclined
  • I don't mean to be rude, but I never went to football games to eat food.
  • There's a heap of food places around the ground - the Leagues Club, Harry's Cafe de Wheels, Maccas, KFC, restaurants on church street, pubs, Parra RSL or bring your own. I never eat at the ground nor drink the mid-strength XXXX. Go the eels!!
    • Sometimes you find yourself with the munchies mid-game, and it's a bit inpractical to go to those places.

The fact is that PK is 100% correct. Charging ridiculous prices for food is one thing, but I can honestly say the quality is criminal.

I never thought I'd say this about a meat pie, but the ones they serve up are terrible. What a scam.

  • "I took the wife and two kids along..." Were they just random kids or did you know them?

  • Jus start a Facebook called puketek mEEL deal. A few pics of their shitty food with prices and send them a link.
