English Super League

I must admit i really enjoy watching the highlights of the english super league each week. So many tries scored in the corners, i think they play an exciting style of footy over there. I know the comp is no where near NRL standard but not bad for a tiny piece of England and France that play the game.

Also i think we can learn from the super league in regards to crowds. They will often only have 5000 in attendance but it's loud and looks like a good crowd or full. Having these huge stadiums for standard NRL games I think was the worst decision ever made. You only had to see the Dogs at Belmore to see how small grounds produce a wonderful atmosphere. You need the big grounds but not every week. Can't stop progress perhaps but ANZ with 10 000 in it just isn't worth going. May as well watch it on TV.

  • I think it helps when referees there aren't afraid to pull out the yellow or red card to keep a game flowing and high tempo. The bottom clubs over there suffer as a result of this though and a reduced salary cap doesn't help. If the money in regards to the salary cap was increased expect the gap to close considerably. Clubs there also don't abandon traditional locations much compared to a club like Souths here which play out of the Inner West of Sydney! I also think Wests might get decent crowds at Ctown if they started actually training and playing there again. A bit more black and white on the jersey wouldn't hurt either.
  • One of the reasons i got Foxtel was for the English Super League. As a spectacle it's a lot more enjoyable to watch, more attacking football which results in more tries. Its' great stuff. and the atmosphere with at all the games seems awesome. The English really getting into it. Good on em.

    • Agreed it's better to watch IMO than NRL. One referee.....and they seem to have a better system.
  • Does the EPL even know they exist ?
  • I'd take the EPL over the AFL anyday.

"Start Samrani either centre or wing. He smashed the sharks and the chooks. Was fast, tackle-busting and once he set his eyes on the try line it was curtains for the opposition.
I'd start him on the wing as not to disrupt Rusty and the combos set up…"
