There is nowt wrong with the emblem, no need to change it. The logo you see there is in part to make legibility easier on small digital displays and for app icons. They would be having a fucking laugh if they ever changed the emblem to that.

You see some other teams do that. Liverpool only have the Liverbird on their jerseys and all official teamwear. But they use the official club crest on all their official documents, at their ground and training centre.
I actually wouldn't mind if they used a simpler logo on their merch as it would be easier for them to roll out classier gear. Rather than a massive Eels logo with the year established, it'd just be this which you could switch to a black or grey scale for shirts, jackets etc.

I think all clubs will move away from having the names on the logo, just easier to have around media and that.

On the post, they said new profile pic. It's just the image for social media/marketing.
Looks good, but it's not replacing our club logo and nor should it.
