Eels Training Day 2

My day off today and I'm in the area so thought I'd head down and watch the boys for an hour or so. The boys are doing fitness drills, lots of running. They are all pretty much the same fitness wise except for 1 guy. John Folau. He is so far off the pace. He can barely run at the moment. It's quite alarming to watch. We all knew he had a lot of work to do but he has a huge mountain to climb. I wouldn't be surprised if BA tells him he's not in his plans anymore.

  • Fitness can be fixed.

    • True. Plenty to encouragement going his way. A few of the guys running extra laps with him so he's not on his own. Watmough and Taka.
    • That impresses me that taka and especially Watmough are supporting Folau like that.
Hopefully it shows us where Watmoughs head is at this year and proving any doubters wrong that his best days are behind him.
    • Hopefully he's settled and now and knows the roles that are expected of him.
  •  Bean: Your the only reporter that I have seen who tells the reality of the situation. More power to you for that. But I must say that I am opposed to these reports at any time but particularly at the start of the training year. But yours is like a breath of fresh air. None of the optimistic guff, none of the elaborate praise of BA etc but telling the reality of what you see. You must be careful though that you are right. Must be fair to the players always.

    • Thanks RL. I'm with you. I just reported what I saw today, nothing more. I'm sure we'll all have a better idea after xmas once combos start taking shape.
    • Robert, I'd like to address the little snipe of yours. Yes I report the positives that I see. Why wouldn't i? I'm a fan. But the main thing that I report from my training blogs is the focus of the session, an explanation of what it involved, and the standouts. Each to their own mate. i don't worry too much about reporting on fitness work. (Not a criticism of Bean as it was fantastic for him to get down and report like this). The reason that I don't is because a player won't make the cut for first grade if their fitness isn't up to it. John Folau is having to do some catch up. He has around 4 months till round 1.
    • Sixtiesboy, I love your reports by the way.
    • Might just do that mate
  • Do you mean Bean that Folau has blown up in size and been celebrating Xmas early and not doing any exercise since the season finished?
