he Dyldam Parramatta Eels have today informed the NRL that they intend to dispute the grading of prop Junior Paulo’s Dangerous Throw charge.
Paulo has been charged with a Grade 3 Dangerous Throw for his tackle on Manly-Warringah’s Matt Ballin in Friday night’s Round One match up, and the Eels will appear on his behalf via our regular Senior Counsel on Wednesday night.
Parramatta will ask the judiciary to downgrade the charge, and has informed the NRL of its willingness to accept a lower grade.
As an example, if the Eels are successful in seeking a downgrade to a Grade 2, Paulo will plead guilty, receive a 25% discount, and miss 4 NRL games.
If the club is unsuccessful, Paulo will miss 9 games.
If the club had accepted an early guilty plea for the current Grade 3 charge, Paulo would have missed 7 games.
In the view of the Eels, this is not a Grade 3 offence, and all decisions in relation to such charges are made in consultation with the player and advisors.

It was an accident, there was no intent in getting Ballin into that position. I think he didn't realise how much power he had over Ballin and he just got him into an awkward position
Mitchell Moses was successful in downgrading his tackle and that looked more intentional than Junior's. I think the 9 weeks is a little too severe. I can live with the 4-5 week ban although even that is a little harsh.
Very galling especially as Jackson's flop on the head of a sitting Penruff player looked way worse than Juniors tackle. When something like that happens I always cringe expecting some very serious injury when a 100kg player places that much pressure on someone's neck.
I think 4 weeks is fair. I was a dangerous tackle but I don't think it had the intent to warrant 7 to 9 weeks.
And that's exactly what he got. His carry over points pushed it up to that length of time.
Why don’t they just charge him with attempted murder and execute him?
Id be happy with the downgrade to 4 weeks if we can get it, that sounds like a more consistent suspension to what weve seen in the past.
This video puts the Josh Reynolds tackle side by side with Paulos tackle.
I'd say Reynolds is worse and he's only looking at two weeks.
This would stink if Reynolds only got two and Paulo got 9
