Parramatta NYC coach Matt Cameron perhaps came out of last week's NYC trial against the Tigers with a number of unexpected selection dilemmas.
It was Parramatta's lesser lights who took to the field in the first half of that clash, while most of the club's contracted Under 20s were kept for a second half performance.
However, it was the first-half squad that performed best in terms of points on the score board, opening up an early 12 to nil lead though tries to prop Jarrod Azar and half Aiden Carney, before the side gave up 30 points to eventually lose the match 30 to 18.
"The first group of players in the first half were trialists and contracted kids and we played all of them and we feel that they went really well," NYC coach Matt Cameron told parraeels.com.au this week.
“I actually thought a lot of the guys that trained with us through the off-season were outstanding (on Saturday)… we can take a lot from that trial match, not so the result, but more so the players we want for this season and combinations".
While the trial may have presented Cameron with a few selection headaches, it was a problem he welcomed.
“The more the better. We will be looking at all possibilities this year and really see what our main strengths will be."
Cameron said he expected to cut down this week's NYC squad to 20 or less players.
