Ray Hadley has revealed Michael Maguire will be asked to head an internal investigation into the woeful state of the Parramatta Eels.

The club is firmly rooted to the bottom of the ladder, having won just two of 13 games this season.

Ray caused a stir back in April when sources told him Eels coach Brad Arthur had “lost the dressing room”.

The Eels have repeatedly tried to discredit that claim, but their on-field performances, culminating in a 30 to 4 loss to Newcastle on Saturday, would appear to support it.

Last month, Eels Chairman Max Donnelly admitted there may be a culture problem within the club and is now set to appoint Michael Maguire to head an internal investigation, according to Ray.

“Today, tomorrow or Wednesday they will apply and seek the appointment of Michael Maguire, the former South Sydney coach, now-New Zealand coach, to conduct an internal investigation into what’s gone wrong at Parramatta.

“Well, Max Donnelly I can tell you what’s gone wrong. As I told you personally seven weeks ago, the coach has lost the dressing room. They have no respect, nor regard, for him and when that happens, teams don’t perform.

“I don’t know whether Michael Maguire will want the job. You couldn’t pay me enough money to go there to sort it out. But if he wants the job, it’s his.

“Michael Maguire will be sought out and appointed if he wants it.”

Meanwhile,  Nathan Cayless has been appointed as an assistant to Kiwis head coach Michael Maguire - a future Parramatta connection?

Could Maguire be in line for the Parramatta head coaching role ?

  • Chief, change the title

    • Yes it's actually Michael McGuire. Predictive text android

      • I wonder if this is a conflict of interest for him?? Being a coach without a job and performing a review of the current job.

    • I don't think it will read as well if he says - Eels to ahshyt McGregor, a poo is far more appropriate in this case and less offensive to the Rose coloured glasses brigade.

"Thorough investigation" - FFS is this Federal politics now?

That would be like asking Ivan Milat if he was guilty, then accepting his reply as the truth.

McGregor must be pretty hard up for cash atm to consider this Poisoned Chalice.

  • I was wondering who Michael McGregor was until I opened the thread....

I am not going to comment on whether McGuire is the right man for this job, as I have no idea on that. What I will say  is I am glad that the review is coming form someone external to the club who hopefully can be objective in their investigation. The key, however, will be for the club to then actually pay attention to the results of the investigation, and not just be doing this as a stunt to try and show that they are trying to do the right thing by the fans, sponsors etc.

  • What was actually said was, he was offered the role as advisor, to which he knocked back, so parramatta may hire him as head coach in next few days. not sure if true but that's what I heard

    and Cayless to take NZ

    • That's not what i heard
      • As I said not sure if true, don't shoot messenger lol

  • Hasnt Michael Maguire been appointed as Warriors coach?

    • I dont know were you blokes get your info from .but according  to Mr Gurr in the tele this morning BA is safe and he has plenty of experienced coaching and support staff as well as peter sharp as recuitment manager and who the hell is Craig Sultana is the football manager as well as nathan cayless in charge of the ELITE junior program .so go figure got me stuffed
