Eels starting 17 2022

Coach: Bennet/Flanno/Woolfe

1.D.Brown: perfect for fullback quick, fast, good footwork, good one on one tackling and nice passing. Give him an offseason training there and should do a great job for us.

2.Sivo: Probably still needs to work more on his agility maybe lose a couple of kgs.

3.Penisini: Future star has to be on the side next year.

4.Niukore: Should make the permanent switch to centre. Could play the Justin Olam kind of role in our team. Have him drop a couple of kilos and work on his lateral movement.

5.Blake: We're missing speed on the edges and Blake offers plenty of it.

6.Gutherson (c): I feel that Gutherson will thrive playing at 6. Can play the game management sort of role in the team that Moses has been struggling with.

7.Moses: RUN MORE! Most times Moses runs he looks very dangerous, he needs to focus more on his running game as his kicking game has been outstanding this year.

8.RCG: Keep doing what you're doing

9.Mahoney (c): I have made Mahoney captain as he plays with passion and 100% every week. He's the sort of player that will always be around the ball and that the players respect.

10.Paulo: Run first offload later

11.Cartwright: Get him doing his magic for 80. He'll be a handful

12.Papali'i: I was tossing up between Matterson and Papa but I think he's the more damaging and effective player on the edge.

13.N.Brown: Play his usual hard running and ball-playing role

14.Matterson: Come on as a ball-playing lock when Brown comes off.

15.Lane:  Add some muscle in the offseason so he's more suited for prop.

16.Greig: Work on his agility and endurance and he'll be a force to be reckoned with. Could add some real punch to our bench.

17.Kaufusi: Again work on his agility as well as his endurance. Get offloading into his game.

  • Wolfe is signed with St Helens

    Bennett won't be in nsw

has to be Flanagan and all the naysayers can f off as there's nobody with similar credentials available as Flanno.

  • Niukore is not a long term centre.

Why would you have 3 props on the bench?.

    • Why did you say that? Marata did very well at 4 when we were a side that could compete with top sides. So why can't you and BA see him as a centre ? Because  he has been a forward rotation?

      • It's not his preferred position,  he did a good job for a short period of time. Classy centres with speed and a bit of foot work would eventually carve him up. He is the perfect forward that can play both middle and edge and can fill in at centre if need be.

    • I agree. If we get a new coach, I can see Blake succeeding at centre. Make Dunster bulk up a bit and put him on the wing. His poor defence is due to our defensive systems. Papalii on the bench. Not the best defender on the edge. Carty and niukore show energy on defence which is important when defending teams trying to go around you. So my team is

      1 D Brown

      2. Sivo

      3. Penisini

      4. Blake

      5. Dunster

      6. gutho

      7 moses

      8. rcg (C) - every week he puts in. Leads from the front.

      9 mahoney

      10. paulo - gets very tired in defence.

      11 Carty (next to Moses)

      12 Niukore (next to gutho)

      13 N brown

      14 matto

      15 kaufusi

      16 lane

      17 papalii

Idk who to drop to make way for W smith as a utility. With this depth you could play Niukore at centre and Blake on the wing (Dunster out) when at full strength. As soon as a forward is injured, niukore back into the forward pack with Dunster in the team.

  • Oh boy! Lockdown must be taking its toll on you Sneaky. Go out for a stroll in the fresh air.

    Remember to wear a mask.

    • Hahahahah lockdown's taking a toll on everyone, especially when Parra is playing the way they are.

      • South East Queensland is out of lockdown as of 4pm, very pleased about that.

        • Good to hear that. Wish Sydney was the same. I'm going crazy at home😂

  • It's pretty clear the team needs a bit of freshening up regardless of who the coach is in 2022. I've been pretty vocal about DB not moving to the centres, but I think it might be worthwhile trying him at fullback, so ...

    1) D.Brown

    2) Sivo (for now)

    3) Opacic (unless we get an upgrade there)

    4) Penisini

    5) Dunster (I'm prepard to write off last night as an abherration, he normally doesn't defend that way).

    6) Gutherson (c) (I'd switch Mitch back to the right side defensively)

    7) Moses

    8) RCG

    9) Mahoney

    10) Junior

    11) Lane

    12) Matterson

    13) Carty

    14) Niukore

    15) N.Brown

    16) Kaufusi

    17) Papa

    18) W. Smith
