Eels' Slip Of The Tongue

A SLIP of the tongue from an enthusiastic medical staffer may have caused a day of drama for the Parramatta Eels yesterday. In a bizarre six hours, Hayne went from being an almost certain starter in Friday night's home blockbuster against Brisbane to the team injured list - sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury. So confident were the Eels early yesterday of Hayne's fitness that, when asked if the superstar fullback would be available for the Broncos game, new recruit Ben Roberts confidently told a 10am press conference: "Definitely."I think we'll wait right until the end (of the week) to see if he's OK, but we're pretty confident he will be.Play The Telegraph Sportsbet.com.au Supercoach 2012"Jarryd's just trying to get his body right. He's staying confident and so is the team."Yet when the Eels released their team sheet around 4pm, Hayne and North Queensland recruit Willie Tonga had been omitted and the phrase indefinite was marked against their names in the injury list. It's understood Parramatta players were convinced Hayne would be fit after a staffer revealed his injury was almost identical to that of prop Tim Mannah, who also hurt his joint in the same trial against Penrith 12 days ago.So when Mannah declared himself available, everyone thought Hayne would also be sweet. Yet it's understood the fullback's knee has not responded to treatment as quickly as medical staff would have hoped - leaving Luke Burt to fill the No.1 jersey.Play Kennards Hire NRL Tipping 2012 In the centres, Willie's younger brother Esi will partner fellow youngster Ryan Morgan. As expected, Roberts will partner South Sydney signing Chris Sandow in the halves.Asked how he felt about his new start with the Eels, Canterbury discard Roberts said he and Sandow were keen to cement a long-standing partnership in the six and seven jerseys."I've never doubted my ability to play football and a fresh start is what I needed," Roberts said."From the staff right through to the players everyone has been awesome. And obviously I'm enjoying my footy, which is the main thing."Chris and I, we've done a lot during the pre-season and are keen to show what we can do. It's a new combination and we've had to do some work on a few things, but the more we get to play together the better we'll get."Hayne a possible late inclusion to the game ?

The first thing I would is this. If Hayne is going to be fit to play, there is no chance I would name him in the side. If he is looking unlikely to be fit, I would name him in the side. I would be throwing dummies to the Broncos until 30 minutes before kick-off.

I don't get it right most of the time, but maybe this could be the case.

    • Fingers crossed SE.

    • Yep.

Kearney showed last year that he is very good at handling the media, both before and after games.  I'd expect him to keep it up this year, and do everything he can to both keep pressure off individuals and keep the opposition guessing.

  • It is very hard, we are but simple Cavemen.

"I've seen a lot of him at the broncos and something isn't quite right with his game. He's now been dropped from origin and broncos for his lapses in games. I would use the money on forwards and a 6. He's basically a worse version of Latrell "
