EELS SIGN DAEJERN ASI FROM FROM WARRIORS

The Parramatta Eels have bolstered their depth by signing utility Daejarn Asi on a two-year deal, foxsports.com.au understands.

Asi, who was without a contract for the upcoming 2023 season, joined the Warriors earlier this year after struggling for regular minutes at the Cowboys.

The Warriors though had plenty of halves depth of their own with Luke Metcalf travelling across the ditch from Cronulla to join Shaun Johnson and Ronald Volkman as leading options.

It left Asi looking for a deal elsewhere and he has found it at Parramatta and is set to join the club next week to commence training ahead of the new season.

Having played fullback, centre and five-eighth during his career Asi will be a valuable asset for the Eels, who are looking to build on last year’s grand final appearance.

He could also give Parramatta a back-up plan should star five-eighth Dylan Brown leave the club at the end of next year.

Speaking to foxsports.com.au in Manchester after New Zealand bowed out of contention at the World Cup, Brown said he was torn as rival clubs circle.

“Security is good, it’s never easy deciding your future, it’s always hard, you’ve got to do what’s best for you and your family,” Brown said.

“At the end of the day it’s all for my family so I’ll discuss with them, it’s not a decision I’m going to make on my own. But I’m excited to sort my future out.

“I love the Eels, I’ve enjoyed playing with them and I’ve been playing with some great players on that team.

“It’s sad to see some of my good mates go, Reed (Mahoney) is leaving, Ice (Isaiah Papali’i) is leaving and a few more boys, but I have to see what’s best for my family.”

  • ''Could also give Parra a back up plan if DB leaves'' BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

If this is our back up plan, we are fucked.

This is like being told your fat and ugly sister is the back up plan for your hot wife, might be music to the ears of QLDers but i expect a better back up plan.

Plus as if this blokes ever going to get in front of nepokid.

    • Eels planning for life after DB

      • If this is the plan for life after DB the clubs done for.

        • Coryn, our back up plan for as long as BA is here is your mate Jake.

BA aint dropping him for Clive Churchill

          • Hahaha

If they haven't worked that out yet, they never will Snake

            • Franky, BA wouldnt swap him for Cleary.

He's already proved he wouldnt swap him for a premiership

        • Not saying his DB, but the Kid has a bit of talent. So if DB leaves, let's see how he goes before all the doom and gloom.

          • If he had been stuck with for 3 or so years in first grade who knows what he would be.

          • The worry with this signing is when you hear this kid has work ethic issues and was why the Cows went to market for another half because of it to me says alot about player.

Asi had a huge opportunity in Townsville to secure a long term spot but couldn't cut it.Then went to the Warriors for not much there either. I'm not sure where this puts the guy in the pecking order if he doesn't get the work ethic and want to get better he's a waste of a roster spot for me.Time will tell.

            • Better not be in the Canadian club mould 🤔🙄

"1. Moses
2. Gutho
3. Lomax
4. Jennings
5. Beau Scott, at the time he brought a lot to the team. What was a inexperienced side and forward pack. He helped build the foundations a lot. "

"Tex Hot will get more money in the UK. Over here he is a winger or back up fullback. Over there he will get another gig at fullback. Not a bad player but journeyman. "

"Hahaha the kid has played 3 games. Two at 5/8 which he hadn't trained or anything at for yonks. Especially in the first grade team he has never. If you don't think the kid has speed and lateral movement poppa you better go to spec savers. He has…"
