Agree Tank, all roads lead to the Newcastle Knights - we are just joining the dots
BA makes obvious sense for Newcastle, but he literally just re-signed a contract extension 2 weeks ago with very strong assurances given to Leads that he'll stick it out next season.
Bad timing, but I think BA had his eyes on the Perth gig and when that fell through he started trying to secure his future for another year.
Also with AOB and BA being close I doubt the Knights would have sounded BA out prior to sacking AOB.
Who knows, contracts mean nothing in sports, but BA will have to seriously burn a bridge if he wants to return to Aus next season.
I can't understand why O'Brien would simply resign. It was reported that Newcastle would need to pay out $2M if they sacked him but, yeah, he will resign and take only $400K.
Doesn't stack up.
Nice post.
So its between blake green and BA, its likely he has a clause that he can terminate that contract for another opportunity to coach in the NRL - Blake Green to succeed will require a really experienced coaching staff around him, the appeal for Newcastle is BA ability to rebuild.
Interesting times ahead.
Blake Green I would not be surprised had the job months ago. Castleford wanted to speak with him, he was keen then quickly said no thanks. Brown also apparently loves Green and he was a factor to going to Newcastle as well as the deal.
Though I also agree that for BA to agree to Leeds deal, they badly wanted him to stay, an NRL clause would be in there.
Newcastle is a good fit, hard working town like BA can infuse that belief. Better than Green who oversee's of the worst attack in the NRL. Just a dumb hire on face value. They say players love Green, but aren't all assistants liked?
Yeah it's a bit bullshit they can just sit their team out , but I guess that's the joys of being up top. They've done it every year and it's worked for them. I hate the cunts , but can't criticise them for saving their stars from injury leading into the semis. The real question is , how did the bookies find out ? Inside trading 101 , there's a legal investigation here that everyone's missing.
Bookies playing outside of the rules. And someone at Penriths selling information.
Corrupt as fuck game , run by a corrupt as fuck organisation, with teams and players throwing games and influencing outcomes. It's poking its head up at the moment.
Best thing we can do is disconnect the Kayo, watch your team play if we must and then don't watch or click on another NRL related article again.
yep. Nrl running a meaningful investigation into this itself is not gonna happen. 3rd party audit time. Chips fall where they may
If you know anything about Austrac and how it works Wiz, you would realise how difficult it is to get a lot of money on without it being traced to the source, if its a couple of piddle bets, it's a non event anyway.
Even Ryan Tandy's game plan was discovered by book maker's turn over outside the norm and that was 15/2o years ago. The sophistication of Austrac systems now mean's you would be putting your financial existence at risk. If you thought you could bring off a plunge. Maybe India and China you could achieve it, but being international funds transfer it will show up somewhere.
Artifcial intelligence is making break through's in language translation with Whales, do you think it would not pick up 2 of the dumbest players currently playing the game. Cheese and Victor, shit if you could have had 5 picks, you mostly likely would have got them!
The pools are just not big enough in Rugby League, you really need an International sport, where world money is involved.
Every cash business in Australia is required by law to be registered with Austrac, don't get caught because the fines are enormous. If there was any match fixing or Insider trading in the "Cheese" case it more than likely was picked up by Austrac before giving it to the Federal Police.
Austrac is an obstacle course, not a roadblock. Dark money can, does and will flow
