After the recent Loko news that Loko went loco and has been hitting the pingers, it got me thinking of our player retention or non retention and recruitment in recent years. We all know there have been some absolute doozies made over the years, well we ARE eels fans BUT, there have been a few let's say shrewd decisions made which have turned out to be very smart decisions by those in charge, looking back.Name a signing or player who was let go or signed, which makes you believe the eels got it right? Also, is our recruitment better now than say a decade ago?I honestly believe we are on the improve re everything recruitment.

  • I've mainly come up with a few we have let go apart from the obvious recent and BIG signings.
    Jacob Loko.
    Reni Maitua.
    Johnno Wright.
    Joel Reddy.
    Todd Lowrie.
    Kevin Kingston.
    Matt Keatng.
    Kris Keating.
    Chayse Blair.
    Justin Horo.
    Nathan Smith.
    Eric Grothe Jnr.

There are a few decisions I believe have been very smart decisions indeed.
For the narks, I realise some maybe six years ago but you know what I mean.
  • Jarryd Hayne. We were becoming a miserable one man band.
    • I would take hayne back in a heartbeat!!! Especially now because he feels how it is not to be the best, if he came back now forget it, he would have a point to prove. I pray if he comes back it is to us
  • Specific players wise im not sure other then the fact that i would of liked us stick with robson wrather then sandow.

As far as our recruitment improving i think we are among the top clubs for the future, like wise are sharks and raiders.

Warriors are obviously making a charge for the premiership with luke and masterchef joining the likes of hoffman as their recent buys

Cronulla are set up for 5 years of dominance over most of the competition and the Raiders are filled with talent right now

  • For fark sake some of these players were let go 6 years ago!! ;)
    • Loko was a brilliant move
    • Hahahaha, you dangled the carrot.
Good blog, next year will be the telling year about how our recruitment is going. Ba has been building to this stage for a coupe seasons now. If we don't play finals next year obviously recruitment typical of every other year which is average to poor.
  • With Foran it could be a great combination, but I'm happy Parra finally have a quality player in the halves. Foran over Hayne for now.
  • I was going to mention Hayne and what a smart move letting him go was but I thought I would try to keep the blog Hayne free!
  • Yeah on ya OnThe!
