Eels re-sign Lasalo and Allgood

The Parramatta Eels have re-signed up-and-coming duo Taniela Lasalo and Mitchell Allgood and are confident of keeping powerful NYC front-rower Peni Tepero.

Eels Chief Executive Paul Osborne confirmed on 1Eyed Eel Fanlink today that Lasalo and Allgood will be with the club next year, with both signing two years deals that will keep them in the blue and gold until 2013.

Allgood and Lasalo have been the big improvers in the Eels squad this year - both started the year as fringe first graders but have established themselves as regulars in the NRL squad with Lasalo locking down a starting second row spot.

Osborne also said that the Eels were confident of retaining powerful NYC prop forward Peni Terepo.

"We have made an offer to Peni and are confident he will be staying as well," Osborne posted on the Fanlink thread.

Parramatta have been successful in retaining their young talent this year, a commitment that Stephen Kearney made earlier this year to members when he outlined his plans for the club.

The Eels had already locked up their dynamic Mackay duo with Patrick O'Hanlon and Marmin Barba extending their contracts with the club. Osborne also confirmed to Fanlink that NYC captain Rory Brien has two years left on his existing contract.

Fanlink is a joint initiative between the 1Eyed Eel website and the Parramatta club to give Parramatta supporters a direct link to the club's officials and ask questions and make suggestions. The Fanlink thread is being facilitated by Tony 'Bongo' Anstee and will include direct responses by club officials and directors.

  • does anyone know the approx dollar figures, would think its on the bottom end of a top 25 player.
    • Excellent news
  • This is SUCH wonderful news. I am so pleased to hear that 2 of my favourites this year, who really have stepped up, will be staying.

It most certainly is, Allgood. : )

  • Fantastic news!
Three great players, all of whom are still young and developing.

  • good news

and now.....when will we get some confirmation of some established first graders signing???? ie the mystery signing?????

  • Now let's re-sign Reni before other clubs come knocking at the door
  • Valid points. It could be due to their age and inexperience.
I think the club must have an idea of what they want and how these guys fit into the big picture.
  • Agreed on Lasalo. I don't think he's a damaging runner on the fringes like Galuvao, who we really miss. Allgood has potential-let's see what next year brings with him.

We don't really have a big, damaging backrower at present, a la Ben Creagh or Adam Blair. Thankfully, Reni Maitua is going well and hopefully gets better-he's definitely a wildcard. Perhaps some of the blokes coming through can step up. I'm pretty sure SK is banking on it. No sweeter premiership than a team full of homegrown stars.

  • Valid points BEM - but I think Allgood has actually improved a bit of late, and is starting to make more runs of a dynamic nature and making solid metres.

Lasalo has been hot and cold, yes - but he is a talent, and can very often come good when needed.
Personally, I do think he's a handy player, and he will only get better as the years go by.

  • I think your wrong big marn on Allgood. He'll be a better than average prop in a couple of years. Lasalo I was a fan of but I just don't know anymore. I thought he used to run great angles. Just not seeing much from him anymore. Maybe I'm expecting too much.
