Eels put out welcome Matt for Orford

Josh Massoud and James PhelpsPARRAMATTA are on the verge of solving their playmaking crisis.Sport Confidential can reveal the Eels are confident of signing Matt Orford in the next few weeks if they can work out a deal with his English Super League club Bradford Bulls."We are certainly keen on Matt and we are working hard to work out something with his club," Eels CEO Paul Osborne said. "He has a year left on his deal over there and they want some sort of transfer fee and we are working on it."The Eels have made Orford their top recruitment target after playmaking duo Daniel Mortimer and Jeff Robson couldn't help the club to the finals this year. Coach Daniel Anderson was keen to lure Brett Kimmorley and then Trent Barrett to the club for a year but both players chose to retire.Orford is desperate to link with the Eels next year and we are told it is very likely to happen.***WHILE Matt Orford looks certain to come back to the NRL, another unhappy Super League player might have to hang up his boots. Former Eel and Dragon Mark Riddell was hopeful of retiring to Parramatta after a stint in Wigan but the club has shut the door on any potential deal. We're told the Sharks are the last possible option for "Piggy".

  • orford looks more likely than gower soon see i guess
  • Hope so. I honestly don't remember if gower was any good or how his kicking game was . I do remember orford was quite good so I'd be happy with him .
  • I think we need one of them for a season or two.

OT: I love the fact that Cooper only signed a 1 year deal. Problem being, we won't be the only club chasing for his signature next season. Probably be a perfect fit for the Broncos when Wallace or Lockyer leave. Can someone please get Steph Rice out of the picture?
  • Crosses his fingers.. Pls just make it happen...
    • The one thing I don't like about this blog is the bloke who wrote the story( James phelps).. The bloke has no idea about league, I meet him once at Miranda hotel last year and he seemed like a decent bloke although intoxicated.. We got to talking about league. And I asked him if he had any news on parra ( signings injuries etc etc) to which he replied that he didn't really have much to do with parra. I found this quiet weird considering he writes on the second last page of the telecrap.. Anyway after a couple more schooners we started to talk about state of origin ( as it was coming up to origin) he went through his team for the blues.. I stopped him almost instantly when he read out his wingers ( no mention of hayne) and asked him about hayne.. He said NO CHANCE..How some of these guys get there jobs is a mystery to me, but I always thought u at least had to have some knowledge of the sport u are covering!!
      • Honestly Dennis are u surprised ? With some of the crap stories they come up with I'd actually be surprised if they knew anything .
        • Lol, yeah I know, But I was more surprised that the telegraph would pay these blokes big bucks on a topic that they have very little knowledge of...
        • Likewise..u are a dead set classic, I like u I like u alot johno... Yeah and when a bloke says to me that hayne has no chance of making state of origin, and everyone in the league world knows he is one of the first wingers picked that tells me a little bit about him, now Einstein tell me why this guy would lie to me about why hayne would not be picked???did he know something I didn't? The fact of the matter is I was at Miranda hotel with about 15 blokes, a few of us struck up a convo with him, and we all walked away with the same opinion..considering u cop a spray everytime come on this site I wouldn't be questioning anyones knowledge of league but ur own champ!!!
        • You Vouch for someone....

Bloody Hell now that's a Put Down.....

Your more connected in your own Little World than a Uni Joint.

          Jingle Jingle !!!!
  • Matt Orfords behaviour as an employee of Bradford Bulls has been a disgrace. Whilst taking a very large salary on sick leave he has been touting himself round the NRL looking for the best deal.Bradford are well rid of him.
If you want to pay a 33 year old with 3 tears in his shoulder mega bucks good luck to you.
