Eels Played Without Plan Against Manly

According to Steve Mascord in Rugby League Week, the Eels were told by SK to just play football. Kearney did no video and no playbook and just told them to play what's in front of them. If Kearney did this for the Manly game why not do it for the Newcastle game? We played with more structure when we didn't have a game plan. Did Kearney bring in a game plan for Newcastle or was it a case of Parra trying to emulate last week's effort? We're in a position when playing pure football might be just the thing to fight our way out of this hole.

  • they certainly looked like they had no idea

    no urgency from most players

    • Maybe it looked like they had no idea how to work with the game plan.

Sandow has always been the sort of player to play what;s in front of him. If he can bust the line or put his teammates thru on a consistent basis and with Hayne in support, it would be good times.

  • I'm believing this may be the case. That the players still dislike the game plan given by kearney and as they were given free reign in the previous week that in turn lead to brilliant individual performances. Kearney tried to bring em back in control and the players flopped.

Something is surley very wrong if we can fluctuate so far between a good great game against former premiers to a dismal showing the following week.

  • Penrith were lucky enough to play Manly without T Rex,Stewart,Stewart and Foran and look how that worked out for them.

  • Hindys retirement had something to do with it but Manly weren't terrible.
  • Thats what was reported, Kearney said in attack play whats in front of them but in defence play as coached! Didnt DA say something similar when asked how we got to the final in 09 said I dont know we had no game plan!? Maybe we are overcoached. Sandow needs to play an innovative game not structured. As does Hayne, Roberts and Matui.Maybe the Kearney should just let them play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When all else fails just depend on the players to do what they already know how to do.

DA got knifed for admitting the same thing because the board then claimed he had no plans for the future.

  • Obviously since a Journalist says this is what SK said, that's exactly how it happened, as we all know Journalists are the paragons of virtue and right up the top with politicians on the totem pole of ethics and honesty.

    • Ben Roberts was quoted as saying that they were told to play what's in front of them.

  • So he comes here to implement a rigid structure like there is at Melbourne, but then totally scraps it for a game. I think that's proof that he doesn't even believe in himself.

The good old debate rears its head again. Why did we get rid of Daniel Anderson?
