Big talk of Junior and Reg playing Origin
If both our bookends are out of Firsts, then this weekend would be a great forum for Makatoa to debut.
We will be left short in the front row...
Lane Kaufusi Papa Hipgrave Makatoa Carty Stone Hollis Brown Matterson Wirremu
can you create our Pack and Bench whilst the 2 best props in the comp are out, how do we keep our power game running?
Replies
Hipgrave is suspended for 2 weeks
Stone out injured
Kafuasi Makota Greig will get a run Brown will have a bigger role to play
Maybe there should be a blog on how Monto is related to Rankin lol.
i dont think he is related, just a massive man crush hahahaa
LOL Chief
Junior will be picked and with Haas likely injured it seems RCG will be called up as well. I'd hate to think Brown would also be selected given Radley's suspension.
It'll be tough for us if our entire starting middle is out given Reedy is likely to be picked for Queensland.
On one hand, it's nice to have four possibly five players at Origin level. On the other, I'd rather none of them were selected. But these are the cards we're dealt.
I think we'd see a starting front row of:
Kaufusi
Lussick
Makatoa
with Lane at lock
Then the bench would be:
Cartwright
Roache
Greig
Hollis
We'd be very much bare bones. Probably lucky we're up against Newcastle that week who will likely be missing Saifiti and possibly Frizell.
I think Brown's a big chance of playing because of the new rules. His energy and ball playing ability through the middle is needed in the modern game. I see him as an impact player off the bench. His kamikaze hitups alongside his energy in defence can really shift the momentum of a game. It'd probably be similar to the way Watmough was most effective in Origin when coming off the bench.
Gutherston will probably be 18th man as well with the new sub rule.
With Paulo, Rcg, Stone and Hipgrave out and the lack of experience in the middle over this origin period, i see Marata playing a massive roll as a staring prop alone side Kaufusi
I think everyone agrees Marata is a much better center than Waqa but maybe a dylan brown/ Hayze Perham combo can do a job for the next 6 weeks
I agree about Marata, though what could be interesting is if Waqa fails against Souths and BA drops him, with Niukore in the middle could this present an opportunity for Penisini. Being named in the 21 and improving his defence lately in NSW cup could prompt a debut.
Put Waqa in the forwards, He seems to enjoy being in the middle of the field rather than an edge. Yes I'm joking, I think his best position is Left/Right Out.
