Eels must make most of golden opportunity

DANIEL MORTIMER believes the rumour mill linking almost any off-contract player with Parramatta is not disrupting the struggling Eels.

Tipped during the pre-season to be one of this year's premiership forces after the recruitment of coach Stephen Kearney and hardened veterans including Carl Webb, the Eels have won only two games and must beat the Gold Coast today to stay within reach of the leading teams.

However, the fact player agents know the club's management has money to spend – and are under pressure to produce – means players are being constantly linked with the club.

  • time to toughen up princess (D.M),............ worry less about what's happening off the field and worry more about your own performances on the field...........

  • We are going to win, I know it, I can feel it, and I believe it. Come on Parra!!!
  • Do you feel it in your waters?...
  • Are these journos on drugs?
Thus is the second article I've read this week which talks about us being touted as premiership faves in the off season.
We weren't! And to say the signing of Webb and others was seen as a positive? Was that when they had stopped laughing at our dad's army recruitment policy?
  • I think we turn up today and grind out a win by 4,another collection of chewed fingernails. One thing though,we were NOT tipped in the preseason ,well at least not by the bookies. We were third longest odds, just ahead of the knights and the perennial outsiders Cronulla.
    • Yeah I almost choked on my cornflakes with the media's claim we were one of the premiership favourites. Yeah 2002 and 2010 maybe. Come to think of it - did they specify which year ?

If my memory serves me correct Benji Marshall wrote an article many moons ago that we were premiership smokies, or something similar, with Kearney at the helm.
  • i had forgotten that Mortimer is only 21. Does anyone else remember what cronk was like when he was 21? or thurston? didnt he get cut from the doggies because he couldnt defend and inconsistant??? Prince as well Cowboys as well.

i hope we dont lose dan!

  • We were third favourites for the spoon before the trials. Then after we won a coupple there was a bit of specking for us and we came into $17 or something. Definately not competition heavyweights by any stretch of the imagination.

The Journo's were panning us at the time when we bought all these old blokes, their just trying to add depth to there mediocre stories.

Nice article on Lachlan Coinakis. Rumours were he was set to head off to Souths this year, instead extending til 2027. Ryley Smith has been good, i think personally overrated (Shoot me), but he has been good for us. But Coinakis adding competition…

We have more versatility with Papali'i on bench compared to Hands or Lussick if…"
