Eels Linked to Matt King

The Parramatta Eels and Timana Tahu are expected to part ways this week which leaves a gap in the Eels backline and some space in their salary cap (Tahu was pencilled in for $300K in 2011).The Eels are currently being linked to former Melbourne Storm winger Matt King.King has been playing in the English Super League for the past few years at the Warrington Wolves. Adding fire to the rumours is the recent signing by the Wolves of disgraced NRL player Joel Monaghan, who also plays in the backline.King also has ties to new Eels coach Stephen Kearney through their time at the Melbourne Storm.

  • lol just when we thought the nightmare of our halfback search was over, so begins the centre search.

I wouldn't mind Matt King, he was a very good player a few years back ( not sure how he is now) but id be worried that hes past his prime. I think itd be so much better if we just used 2011 to blood our juniors .
  • He's still contracted to Warrington for a year for starters.
Not to mention the fact that he was seen laughing and training with the Warrington players on Friday.

As good as it would be to have him, how much do we have to cough up to pay-out the remainder of his contract, or for a transfer fee?

Take a look at this thread on King and his 'quitting' on RLFans.com

Check out a comment on Page 3 in particular, the last one.
    King's still training with Wolves.

I know it's three weeks old, but it's food for thought to the whole situation.

  • We can't throw Loko into the mix just yet - as was the case with SBW and Filiga, to expose a young, raw body to the rigours of the NRL too earlier can hamper their development in the long run.

I imagine SK will look to give Loko a taste of first grade during the season but likely from the wing - just as the club did with Hayne. In the meantime, we have a very desperate requirement to pick up a quality centre. Surely there's a few blokes in the ESL who are prepared to try their hand in the top competition on the planet! And what happened to signing Phil Graham??
  • Supposedly yes.
    Many different amounts surfacing.

Still though, guess we'll have to see how it pans out.
  • WIth all our back rowers, maybe SK will move Ben Smith back ot the centres?
  • Rumours, rumours, rumours. Facts are we still haven't got anyone we've been after (unless no-one else wanted them) and currently have also nearly $1million remaining in the 2011 salary cap but more disturbing is we have only signed 14 individuals for 2012
(http://www.zerotackle.com.au/rugby-league/nrl/teams/parramatta-eels/) and with the recuritment officers and clubs inability to attract quality players then I fear more for 2012 than next year (and I don't hold out much hope for 2011)
I will always bleed blue and gold blood but with the future we have to look forward to I'm afraid it'll be more like blue and gold tears,
(does the administration of this club even care about it's supporters?)
SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR OUR RECRUITMENT FAILURES OR SOMEONE MIGHT HOLD THEM RESPONSIBLE (Rocket Reddy was never an Eel anyway)
  • i told you so
  • some space we have massive space left.
  • He's contracted to Warrington for the 2011 season.
