Eels kicking game

Most opposition fullback's today are decent, except for Hoppa lol, why in the past 2 games have Parra decided to bomb Moylan and Tedesco? The high ball led to nothing, especially against decent players. No chip and chase or across field kicks to the wingers.

  • Both fullbacks are really good broken play returners the bomb limits the amount of space to return. Both games neither fullback made a big return.
    • Interesting way of looking at the game, but I always thought the high ball was meant for a 50/50 chance of regathering or scoring.

    • It's being used both ways players like tedessco moylan coote and to an extent the NFL player. If you bomb it have a straight line you can make the tackle and slow the play the ball.
    • Agree with how the tactic is used and a midfield bomb is a defensive move that most teams use. However is also allows the other team time to get back on side as the ball spends more time in the air. I would much prefer a long flat kick to a corner. This gives teams the chance to defend one edge rather than middle of the field.
  • Our kicking game is average, Forans has been rubbish.  Not having a kicking option from dummy half doesn't help either.

  • I know this comment isn't about a fullback vut when peast first started playing with the eels he use to kick out of dummy half at times but now i dont see it much. Hopefully when hes fully recovered he starts getting more confident to do it or maybe BA has told him not to? I dont know just saying.
  • does Foran or Norman know how to do a 40/20

    • HAHA well said Paul. Sandow managed this a few times and he was ordinary.

  • I thought Normans kicking was pretty good. He got a couple of repeat sets etc.

The problem with the attacking kick is that if you get an unfavorable bounce and the ball goes over the deadball, the opposition gets 7 tackles starting at the 20m mark.

So a bomb dropping just in the field of play means that the opposition starts from there. Its conservative play and thats how every team is going. Some teams would rather be tackled on the 6th 5m metres out than put in a grubber and risk it going over the deadball.

Personally I think the 7 tackle rule should be scrapped or shouldnt apply if you put the kick in from less than 20m out. or the start of the 7 tackles should be 5-10m max off the goal line.

  • Get the whole defensive kick thing against tigers particularly, but just the odd mixing it up a little woulda been nice when we are on an attackroll, or to help get us on one too.

Think our attacking kick choices have been the worst aspect of our play all year, the execution of them is very rarely perfecto either.
Definitely would help our chances big time when they improve.

Normz is still a little wild card now and then when under pressure in the kick dept and foz's injury may be hampering tho
