Harold Matthews won 74 to 6, that's on top of their 42 to nil win last week.
And SG Ball won 50 to 12 after having a narrow loss to the Bulldogs in round one - that was the grand final replay from Matts last year and both teams will definitely be expecting to do very well this year despite stepping up in age.
NYC lost to Penrith, although they trialled a lot of combinations so it won't tell us too much. There are some good young players in this team, but a lot of them are stepping up from SG Ball last year so may be better next year.
That said, they do have Mitchel Johnson and TK Amosa, who have stood-out at NYC level even as U19s last year. The forward pack is pretty strong and has better depth in my opinion than last year with the likes of Ava Seumanufagi, Peni Terepo and Phil Nahti, who have all been outstanding in SG Ball and of course second rower Patrick O'Hanlon who could go on to be anything.
I know a lot of Eels fans will be attending more matches this year given our increasing number of ticketed members and I encourage you to get to the game and watch NYC and even head out to the occasional SG Ball & Matts matches. I'm going to try and cover them a bit more this year as well.
Following the juniors as they come through adds a whole, new layer of enjoyment to following our beloved Blue and Gold!
