Eels in All Stars Game

Surprised there hasn't been a blog created about the performance of our three Eels who played in the All Stars match last Friday night.

Thought I may as well start one up as it was exciting to see French, Taka and our new recruit Fergo for the first time in 2019.

Other people on this site are much more astute than me when assessing player's performances, but for what it's worth here are my views.

French - He was having fun! He looked like a wide eyed kid having a great time! I saw him frequently backing guys up when they made a break although his positioning seemed a little off sometimes and it prevented them getting the ball to him. Didn't really notice him in defence but then I was just enjoying the spectacle too.

Taka - looked to be moving very freely, was strong in tackles, and had good speed off the mark for someone considered by many to be an old fella.

Fergo - Also looked like he was having a great time and was strong in the tackle. Most telling moment was when he made a long break down the sideline. He did not look very quick and was run down quite easily. I thought he was much faster, but maybe he excells in the 30-50m range rather than the 60-80m range.

What did everyone think of the trio's first hit out of the year?

    • so that’s also BA Fualt lol Moron

  • Outside ones  club scub sometimes  a player  may benefit his own  game  playing  alongside  other  high  profile   players and  as they would  say ,  picked  up  some  enjoyable and  valuable  experience,  who knows  maybe  Ferguson  may one day  end up in the forwards , but yeah  our  trio did kind of enjoy  their  footy  the other  night  , .... meanwhile  back  at the ranch the  knives were  still  busy  sharpening,  sparks flying well into the  night over  their  grind stones.   Lol

  • Ferguson was excellent. I thought he showed pretty good pace on that break you say he was caught easily but he got to about 15 metres from the line against chasers who had the angle on him. He’s quick enough for a bloke his size. Probably about the same speed as Semi over the length of the field.

French was also good and showed what he would do in a side playing well and with confidence. However he is an out and out finisher and he isn’t going to be doing the tough stuff. You have to make a decision as a footy team whether you can carry him. Also he is a fullback and nothing else.

  • Wonder if Fergo will do that back flip again? That was cool. Great to see the Eels bought well by having him as a replacement for the Semi Trailer. So, will we be calling Fergo "the Tractor" after the Massy-Ferguson tractors?

    • Lol, Parramaniac, "The Tractor", that's a good one.  What about this one?  "The Fer-tilizer" ;)

      • I thought Hayne was the Fertiliser

    • They couldn’t have done any better to replace Semi. Now if we one of the promising wingers we have in the squad such as Sivo or even Greg L, who the coaching staff rate, can come through we will have a powerful wing combo.

    • Haha, not bad, im down with that, the Tractor.

  • Thought if Ferguson had passed the ball to French (who is obviously faster) he could have scored. Thought Fergusons back flip was super dumb. Didnt take much notice of Taka. French was ok in a good quality side.

    • Monto, that back flip was the dumbest thing I've ever seen, almost like a hippopotamus trying to look elegant. He was around 5 seconds from a broken neck had he not got away with it
