Eels EOFY Report card.

EELSHOW THEY FAREDGiven the players Parramatta are missing, the performance in the first half in particular against Souths was terrific. No Corey Norman, no Michael Jennings, no Nathan Brown. That’s three pretty handy players and the Eels still made the Rabbitohs look second-rate on their way to an 18-0 halftime lead. The final score also flattered Souths because of two controversial refereeing decisions. The Eels had a deadset try denied because of a horrible forward pass call, while it was hard to see how the bunker determined Alex Johnston grounded the ball fairly for his try.WHO STARRED, WHO STRUGGLED?Does Clint Gutherson ever have a poor game? It doesn’t matter where Brad Arthur plays him.He was outstanding again on Friday night.Mitchell Moses also looked a lot better in his second appearance for his new club and his kicking game caused all sorts of headaches for Cody Walker.Another worth a mention was Kaysa Pritchard, this tough little dummy half is getting better by the week.Clinton Gutherson rarely has an off game for the Eels.INJURY WARDMatt Woods (Shoulder, Round 15)Isaac De Gois (Concussion, Indefinite)Mitchell Moses (Hip, Round 13)Frank Pritchard (Foot, Round 18)Peni Terepo (Pectoral, Round 22)Nathan Brown (Ribs, Indefinite)Corey Norman (Knee, Round 14)Michael Jennings (Hamstring, Round 16)WHO’S LURKING ON THE EDGE?Nathan Brown (ribs) didn’t play against the Rabbitohs and it’s not known if he will be back for this Friday night’s game against the Warriors. Moses suffered a nasty bump on his hip injury but it is not expected to cost him any time on the sidelines.Michael Jennings (quad) is due back in round 16 and Norman (knee) in round 17.REPORT CARDB+: Arthur wasn’t happy with the Eels’ second half but he would be happy to take home two crucial competition points. After 12 rounds Parra are now six wins and six losses and have shown enough to tell us they can challenge any team providing they get more consistent over the full 80 minutes. After the Warriors, they face the Cowboys and Dragons before the bye after State of Origin II.By then they will have Norman and Jennings back.

  • Pretty positive article Chief.
    Where is this from?
I notice it says Norman back round 14, then round 17.
According to Corey it is 14.
    • corey was still in a leg brace on the weekend, im thinking its closer to Rd 17 than 14.

  • Don't know who wrote this but I do know a dodgy Unicorn salesman.

    B+ is optimistic.

    C+ is real.

The team (with the exception of a small few) clock off for at least 20 minutes in EVERY game - FACT.

This is the attitude of an "also ran" team.

We scare NO ONE in the comp.

YES! - we do have our moments but can never go on with them to put teams to the sword.

Get in front, we lift the foot for a while, then try to salvage a win.

50% W/L does not cut it in my book, and shows we will most likely be celebrating Mad Monday the first week in September.

    • I agree Sir Col - 50% is a C, C+ tops.

Our next 3 games will define our season I reckon. We have a lot of winnable games in the run home but we need to hop into the 8 now.

We have to beat the Warriors this weekend - massive game for us.

  • Grunta, Brad said Norman could be playing next week against the Cowboys.

If not he will very likely be available the week after dragons. R 15 if everything goes as planned.
    • No worries Chief.

      Where is this article from?

    • Brad Arthur also named Nathan Brown against the Bunnies Chief, and according to the Eels site Brown is now indefinite.

I think he is trying to learn how to play "The Mind Game"

    • Fair call Gol, 50/50 is a pass mark so a C+ is probably fair enough.

If we can pick a few wins before Norman,Jennings and Brown are back they are all bonuses.

12 wins normally get you into the finals but with our F/A atm we may need 13.

  • You would be hard pressed to find a side that could play so well without their highest paid back (Jennings), their best player and halfback (Norman), their probable starting hooker had he not recently suffered with concussion (Degois), and their starting lock and best forward this year (brown). Not to mention their only player of size and height (Pritchard) and hardest running bench forward (terepo). Just look at broncos and roosters when they are missing similar important players over the weekend. Neither were anywhere close to the eels quality.
    • I think we played great on friday nite against south we had some good players out n against the ref to and still won bit of luck we have brown back and the ref on our side (haha)we mite win

"Big yes. Sign him for 27 and 28. Even throw in a JAC/JDB clause. If you're playing well we will keep you for 29.
Let JDB go after this year unless he performs and is happy to be our ressie captain next year and steer the youngest around.
