Eels didn't play their natural game

For all the cut and thrust of analysis over why the Grand Final went the way it did, I fully agree with Jarryd Hayne's post-game assesment. "I think at the end of the day we probably gave (the Storm) too much respect, in the fact that we didn't play our natural game," Hayne said. "We knew they were a tough team and I think maybe we didn't throw the ball around enough," he said in an AAP article. "When we threw it around we looked dangerous, that's our play, that's how we roll, that's how we play footy. We didn't do it and when we did do it we looked dangerous. It's tough but what are you going to do now? FULL STORY: http://news.brisbanetimes.com.au/breaking-news-sport/remember-pain-of-storm-win-hayne-told-20091004-ghxw.html

  • even tho saying i cant wait for next year is a cliche... I cant fukin wait for next year!!!!!!!
  • I think that Turners run after he was called held and release in the 4 th minute, which unsettled our backline and let in their first soft try (And for some reason was not called back??), got a lot of our blokes thinking... Hell.. how did they do that so easily? That immediately put them on the defensive.. and robbed the confidence we needed.. and got back once they realised we were not going to be park walked by Melbourne. Too much respect.. Which I am sure no player there tonight will give them again.
    • Hey, Im glad Im not the only one who heard that! It is the calls like that that really stuff a game for one team.
      • Yeah, I heard that on the sports ears, Archer called "2nd", and the bloke just got up and ran. wtf
        • I watched the game again today, for some reason that f*cks me, and he said "Held, release". Letting Turner run again gave them 15m, allowed them to get close enough to get a repeat set and then they scored. Thankyou Archer! It bugs me that it draws a penalty all year, but because it is Melbourne Storm and a GF they won't blow the whistle!
  • But we made bad calls of judgement that we payed for, Inglis's try where no one caught the ball, that was poor reading in a big game.. there are many others.. Lowrie's kick with a few minutes to go, on the 5th tackle, why was the ball given to him??? He should have known not to be standing there, did you see Dallas Johnson standing 1 pass of the ruck on a 5th tackle??
    • Goodbye TAMMY!
    • We did but on the Lowrie kick, why weren't we given a penalty two plays earlier for Tolman laying in the ruck and slowing the play the ball down?
