The Parramatta Eels have put in one of their greatest ever defensive efforts to grind out a 14-12 win against the Sydney Roosters. Parramatta had to hold a slender two point led for more than 30 minutes to secure the win.
The Roosters very nearly scored in the opening minutes when Boyd Cordner sliced through. With three unmarked men on his inside he threw the dummy and was tackled by Semi Radradra and Jarryd Hayne, losing the ball.
Parramatta then posted first points following a try to Ken Sio in the corner. A right hand side sweeping play, Jarryd Hayne took the ball before delivering the final cut-out pass.
Sam Moa responded for the Roosters when he barged over from close-range. James Maloney's conversion saw the score at 6-4.
Ken Sio then bagged his second, following a cross-field kick from Chris Sandow. The perfectly weighted right side kick saw Sio cross untouched and Sandow's sideline conversion gave Parramatta a 10-6 lead.
Closing in on half-time, it was Daniel Tupou who took the lead for the Roosters. A 70 metre run, he wrong-footed Jarryd Hayne before holding off Nathan Peats and Semi Radradra. At half-time, the Roosters led 12-10.
As always Semi Radradra couldn't be kept quiet. He muscled his way over after Willie Tonga had created some room on the inside. The missed conversion had Parramatta lead 14-12 with 36 minutes remaining.
The Eels had held on grimly, repelling set after set before Sonny Bill Williams crashed over, seemingly giving the Roosters the winning lead. But Jarryd Hayne had somehow managed to hold the back-rower before Tim Mannah arrived assist.
That's how the score finished. The Eels grinding their way to a 14-12 win and climbing to second on the ladder with three wins in a row.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.
Awesome, magnificent, spectacular, amazing, fantastic, brilliant - brilliant - brilliant.
After Semi scored if you had told me that we would hold them out for another 36min to win the game i would have of laughed at you. Outstanding 2nd half effort by our pack to match it with their pack on a wet track also.
Arthur has put plenty of steel into this team in so little time, no wonder Manly were upset losing him.
Their halves are truly rubbish, Pearce is once again a walk up start for a Blues jersey. Scary thing after this series he will have played more games for NSW Than Sterlo,Mortimer and Ricky. And he isn't fit to do up their bootlaces even now.
Just think it more a case of Premiers being aimed up against every week. And we were no exception this time round. It was all us Miatch. So proud of their new attitude and will. Well done BA so far. I was sceptical but wow.
Thought this had something to do with the great Mick Cronin running amok against the hapless Roosters in the mid 80's???
