New Parramatta Eels head coach Jason Ryles continues to shake up the club's coaching staff, with another club official set to depart at the end of the season.

The news comes after reports emerged that Ryles has indicated to interim coach Trent Barrett that he will no longer be needed as an assistant coach at the Eels beyond this season, having previously worked under Brad Arthur.

Likely not the first change to the club's staff, Head of Performance Trent Elkin is set to depart the club at the end of the season, per News Corp.

According to the publication, his departure will see him link up with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and is close to accepting a deal where he will be a member of Wayne Bennett's coaching staff alongside assistant coaches Ben Hornby and David Furner.

Having spent the past five seasons at the Parramatta Eels, Elkin's resume includes a long stint with the Cronulla Sharks previously.

  • Had to be replaced. The team looks slow and unfit. After 25 minutes everyone looks gassed.

Wonder what Ronnie" the cougar" Palmer is up to. Just jokes, but I'd be sniffing around the Panthers system. Those guys never seem to tire during a game. Maybe a new pipeline to pump the water in.

    • The eels fitness issues are more mental than physical,  the mind gives up before the body does.

      • Agreed. Physical fitness is not the issue whatsoever. It's between the ears

      • I've always believed that the higher the fitness levels, the longer the body can perform close to its optimum allowing the mental side "concentrate" at the task at hand. When the fatigue sets in that's when the mental side states to slide trying to push the body to do what you're physically starting not be able to. I believe we do have to work on the mental side of the game but it is definitely a chicken or the egg. Does stronger physical side aid the mental, or stronger mental aid the physical. I suppose this is up to Ryles to put his philosophy in place and get the correct people in their respective roles and trust the process

    • Ryles surely would know someone from either Melbourne (that is not currently there), Sydney City, Wallabies or elsewhere he can bring in.

    • Agree a change had to be made.

Although, you watch how good and fit the bunnies will be next season.

  • knowlesssssss

  • Probbably the last bloke that needed to go.

    • No he has to go too. We are gassed every week after 60 minutes
