Eels Biggest Losers in 2024 NRL Draw

NRL clubs react as full 2024 season draw announced

The biggest losers of the 2024 NRL daw have been made clear with Parramatta leading the list of clubs that have been dudded.

Parramatta has been handed a nightmare draw for the second consecutive season.

The NRL on Monday announced the full fixtures for the 2024 season with Cronulla emerging as the big winner, playing eight games against this year’s bottom four sides while they’ll also play the fewest matches against top eight teams, NCA NewsWire reports.

On the other end of the spectrum, Parramatta will play five teams that are coming off a bye the previous week.

The club has also been stiffed playing all the top five teams from 2023 twice, while playing just two bottom-four clubs.

The fixturing will be a slap in the face for Eels fans after the club also found itself 0-3 and then 1-4 to start the 2023 season after three of their first five opponents came off a bye round.

They never recovered last year — and it looks like the draw will be another hurdle for the club to confront next year.

The popular Ladies Who League Twitter account was among the first to criticise the draw given to the Eels.

“Forget the toughness of the draw - I get it. But this I genuinely do not get. No team should have to deal with this,” the account posted on X, responding to the number of times the club will face opposition coming off bye rounds.

  • The Eels will continue to get treated like shit by the NRL so long as they continue to lie down like a puppy dog and not stand up and speak out! It really amazes me how Penrith the supposed premiers always get favourite calls, favourite everything alongside some of the other top tier teams. All this does is once again consolidate the fact that the NRL is totally corrupt! In my opinion Penrith are unworthy a 3 Peat premiership team! Absolutely disgraceful. Don't think I'll be watching too many CRL games in 2024

    • This...

We need a major overhaul at the Leagues club - the guys running the joint are spineless or just plain stupid. Sarantinos probably hides under his desk most of the time and the board are absolutely invisible. Grow a set you useless pricks.

BA also needs the step up his game and defend our side when warranted to send the NRL a clear message that we won't be lying down anymore for the pricks at rugby league HQ.

      How fucking hard is it?

      • The Leagues Club board is separate to the football club board. Only two members of the PLC board are on the PNRL board.

Leagues Club board doesn't do much regarding the football apart from approve funding if needed.

        • Whatever board has a say with how the football team is pegged by the NRL, needs to stand up and stick it to the NRL.

We are getting ass raped and bitch slapped every year by the NRL and nothing is ever done about it on our end. That's piss weak.

          • That would be the PNRL board.

    • Pretty sure we actually ask for certain teams to play at home for gate taking reasons. Traditional rivals, teams with supporters who travel etc. Also, I assume the broadcasters (esp. C9) would ask for matchups that would rate well.

We may get hardish draws but it's not because of the reasons you have stated.

      • Do u think we asked to play 5 teams that are coming off a bye again?

        • Can't count Newcastle as we are also "off the bye" that week.

Broncos even out as they play us off the bye as well.

You can bleat about it all you want but I will say again, it is not because of the reasons stated in the blog.

          • No one's bleating. U seem like you're in the know about it. How do u know what we asked for or if we got it? Just asking. Do all clubs have a say? Just asking cause "Your pretty sure".

            • Take a look at this -

Who each team plays, when and where is mainly determined on club requests as to which matchups attracts the best crowds and television ratings.
