Eels best Team Based on Trial

1. Gutho - no comment needed

2. Fergo - had some good runs in the trial. Starved in attack as usual

3. Blake - defence is still poor and poor in attack

4. Opacic - pretty solid in attack and defense

5. Sivo - pretty good

6. Brown - both halves decided to spread the ball on slow play the balls so they were never any threat. Still building combinatons with his new edge. A bit rusty as well. Suprising missed many tackles today.

7. Moses - both halves decided to spread the ball on slow play the balls so they were never any threat. Still building combinatons with his new edge. A bit rusty as well.

8. Paulo - no comment needed

9. Mahoney - he can't be an 80min hooker in the modern game. He does run abit but he is not very quick or strong and thus not suited to the modern game. Lussick needs to be on the bench incase his attack isnt working out.

10. RCG - no comment needed

11. Cartwright - by all reports he was doign very well in the off - season. Eventually I think he will made it into the starting 13. When he returns from injury I recon he will be in reserve grade before quickly pushing for a bench spot and than into the starting 11.

12. Matterson - looks a bit lazy and needs to use his skills better. Doesn't use his strong body well enough. Needs to run harder into the defense.

13. Brown - no comment needed

14. Lusick - better running dummy half that Mahoney and will be needed for this on the bench

15. Lane - lazy as crap. His acceleration and effort makes him useless on the edge as he is easily evaded through speed or footwork. I liked him last year off the bench and playing in the middle.

16. Marata - could push for the starting 13 once back from suspension

17. Papali'i- could push for the starting 13.

OTHERS OPTIONS

18. Kafusi - was pretty impressive in the trials and will start on the bench with Marata suspenson and Cartwright injury for rd 1. Could be a permanent role on the bench if he continues ot develop and if Lane continues to be crap.

19. Penesini - Start in reserve grade. Looks a great talent. If he plays well in reserve grade, he will be pushing for Blake's spot

20. Dunster - Start in reserve grade. Looks a great talent. If he plays well in reserve grade, he will be pushing for Fergo's spot

21. Hipgrave - Hope he is never named in the 21. Compleltely illdispcipline and horrible defender. Doesn't offer anything in attack either. Waste of cap space. If we suffer injuries, juniours should be prioritised instead of him.

22. Rankin / Smith - fight Lussick for the utlity spot

  • I forgot to add Roache. If he stays fit and gets his body right, I believe he will be our new no9. Was always promising in warriors, espicially his runnign game. Unfortuntely injuries have been in his way.

  • I honestly think that there were no stand out players in tonight's trial against Penrith. It looked to me more of a physical exercise run for game and match fitness more than anything else. I don't even think they were trying different combinations either. It was all a bit lazy and I thought there might have been a couple of slight injuries as well with Mitch Moses and Nathan Brown towards the end.

  • Not a bad wrap mate. hopefully cartright will give us some attacking spark and offloads

    • Thanks. We get plently of offloads already. We just need to learn how to attack through offloads.

  • Kafusi is a plodder.

Papalili was everywhere, might turn out to be like Hindmarsh.

    • Papalili is always heavy involved. Certainty for the bench.

  • I don't rate Moses at all, but was really impressed with the touches he had last night. He also asked some questions by running to the line on a few occasions. Other than that it was the same old same old in attack. Was watching the south's game before and their attack compared to ours is on another planet. I know it was only a trial & south's played a pretty ordinary Dragons side but for me I'm seeing nothing new to our attacking structures. I hope they have plenty up their sleeves in attack especially in the first few months as we won't improve much if not.

that's my round 1 side. Not much to choose from when the NSW cup side got hammered too.

  • Maybe use the reserve grade side.
