In 2017, when the Parramatta Eels win on the field, we will be announcing three awards presented to the players following the game.

The awards are:

·      Rebel Moment of the Week Award

·      Grappa Relentless Effort Award and

·      Pendle Hill Meat Market Own Your Job Award

These awards are presented to the players as chosen by Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur and the Blue & Gold coaching staff in relation to how they meet the Eels standards and expectations.

Rebel Moment of the Week Award – Josh Hoffman

Blue & Gold winger Josh Hoffman wins this week’s Rebel Moment of the Week Award.

In the 78^th minute, with the Eels leading 34-16, the Dragons attacked the Eels line looking to cross the for a late consolation try. Dragons half Gareth Widdop chipped to the corner for his winger Jason Nightingale but Hoffman turned and sprinted back in defence putting his body on the line in the process.

Nightingale would have had a simple catch and put down, but Hoffman’s desperation and determination to stop the Dragons from scoring ended up with the Eels winger being collected with his opposite number’s shoulder as he stretched and knocked the ball over the sideline.

Hoffman’s courageous effort to put his body on the line stopping a certain at the death.

Grappa Relentless Effort Award – Manu Ma’u

Eels second rower Manu Ma’u earns this week’s Grappa Relentless Effort Award.

Ma’u finished with 157m from his 18 hit ups, but it was his brutal 28 tackles that had a real impact on the game.

Ma’u was uncompromising with his defence, often rushing up on Dragons half Josh McCrone, negating his impact on the game.

A physical and aggressive 80 minute performance from the backrower.

Pendle Hill Meat Market Own Your Job Award – Nathan Brown

This week’s Pendle Hill Meat Market Own Your Job Award goes to interchange forward Nathan Brown.

Brown was used with plenty of effect and impact off the bench in the Eels Round Two clash, with the forward spending a busy 54 minutes on the field. 

Silky skills allowed the Eels halves and backline plenty of space but his 145m from 17 runs and 21 tackles proved the forward was willing to get involved in the tough work in the middle.
