EELS ANNOUNCEMENT: Danny Wicks Announces Retirement

It’s with a heavy heart that the Parramatta Eels announce the retirement of prop Danny Wicks, effective immediately.

Wicks, 30, debuted for the Eels in 2015 as player 770 and became a Club favourite, passing the 100 NRL game milestone in Round 18 of 2016 against the Sydney Roosters.

“Danny has been a key part of our group in the last two seasons both on and off the field and it will be disappointing to not have him as part of our team in 2017,” Head Coach Brad Arthur said.

“When he joined the Club, he did so with the simple goal of resuming his career and providing a strong contribution to the Club and his teammates.”

“While the goal was simple, he undertook a lot of hard work and dedication to meet that objective."

“Both he and the Club can be proud of what he has achieved over the last two years and he will be missed this season and beyond."

“We wish Danny and his family all the best for their future, and I am sure he knows that he will always have a special relationship with the Club and our supporters."

Danny said that while it was a difficult decision, he will look back at his time with the Eels as a positive in his life.

"I have really enjoyed my time at the Eels and I am thankful to Brad and the club for giving me the opportunity to play for the last two seasons," Wicks said.

“I’m so grateful for the teammates I have played alongside and against, the coaching staff and my family who have been by my side through this entire journey."

"As a team, we have come a long way since I joined in 2014 and the support I have received from the Eels fans has been overwhelming, however, I can’t wait to start the next chapter of my life."

Danny finishes his NRL career with a total of 104 games, including 35 games wearing Blue and Gold.

    ILL Be Back

  • I remember an interview he did once with a male journo; Wicksy told him he was the most beautiful man he had ever seen, he said something like "Hey Normie, check out this bloke - he's stunning". Eventually the reporter got a question in, Wicksy replied something like "sorry mate, what was the question, I was lost in your eyes". It was classic stuff.

A great club man, hope he can make it down a few times a year to catch up with his old team mates and watch a game or two.

    Cheers Wicksy :D
