EEL FOR LIFE

The Parramatta Eels are reportedly set to offer star halfback Mitchell Moses a new contract extension, which would see him remain in blue and gold until the end of the 2027 season.

According to SEN’s Michelle Bishop, Moses’ latest extension is set to be worth $1 million a season across five years.

“He turns 28 in September,” Bishop said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“He’s under contract for 2023 and looks set to pick up an option in his favour for 2024, but negotiations are underway for a new deal.

“It’d make him an Eel for life, taking him through until the end of 2027, which would just about be the rest of his career as he’d be 33 (by the end of the deal).

“Reports are floating around that the deal is worth around $5 million this deal, that’s $1 million a year all up.

“I know he bought a family house in the inner west, he obviously doesn’t want to move, he’s pretty happy.

“I can definitely see him becoming an Eel for life.”

Asserting himself as one of the best halfbacks in the competition, Andrew Voss believes that Moses has earned every penny of his latest extension.

“He is one of the better playmakers in the competition,” Voss said.

“Look at the Dragons without Ben Hunt, it’s tragic, he may not be the best seven or six in the comp but if you take him out of the side it’s a huge difference.

“That’s the same with Mitch Moses.”

  • I think he is worth it, some don't,  a good half-back is hard to find and even his harshest critics would have to admit he is a good half-back, sometimes great, sometimes he goes missing, but overall good.

  • Worth it. Obviously he's not the best halfback of all time but he's an nrl level halfback and they are actually super rare. Find a halfback and you're halfway to making a team.

  • Not worth it at all. Blokes worth 700k in my eyes for 3 years.

    • You offer 700k and you lose him, simple as that.

      • And if you lose him what is  the big deal ? Has he achieved anything for the club in all his time here that would warrant he been given a contract at $1m a year until he is 33 ?

Considering he has achieved very little at 28 the chances of he excelling into his 30s of pretty low then the club will be stuck with $1m half back who they wont be any to get rid of .

If he was a player who has achieved things for the club who had succeeded more than he had failed in big games them by all means do it but he hasn't and if you are relying on the judgement of people who run the club then good luck to you .

        • I don't disagree with your sentiment Frankie about what he has achieved, but the big deal is replacing him. This club doesn't exactly have a history of going out and snagging top line marquee players.

          • Well that is another story , the point is the club had committed to Moses until he is 33 purely out of fear of losing him , of he was a champion player with a long history of success and getting the job done then fine , but not for a player who at 28 has had more poor games than good ones and who had buckled in more big games than he has succeeded .

The reason why clubs like the Chooks and Storm have had so much success is because why don't think and plan  for the next 2 years they think and plan for the next 5 years .

            • If I were the club I'd be moving heaven and earth to get Munster. A pipe dream I know...

              • Meellk the club is run by absolute dopes so these kinf of signings will never happen , Parra are just a club who get sucked  in to paying overs for players who give little in return or for the fear of losing them .

Parramatta weren't even interested in re signing Matterson at the start of the year which but then because they realised they lost a few backrowers they panicked and  re signed him .

Matterson has played about 10 good gsmedt for club and been very inconvenient yet the club gave him a 4 year deal which will take him 32 at $600k , if he was a top consistent player then by all means but Matterson is a slightly above average backrower with zero consistency.
