The Edwards incident is another low point for the Eels, who are sitting at the bottom of the ladder. Parramatta chairman Max Donnelly said the club was doing everything possible to turn the situation around and would consider appointing a head of football. The club had considered potential candidates - including Brian Smith and Phil Moss - when Donnelly was appointed administrator two years ago, but the issue was put on the backburner after a successful 2017 season. Eels CEO Bernie Gurr is currently filling the role, but the topic will be discussed at next week’s board meeting.

“I’m happy to have a head of football, it was not that I consciously decided not to have one, it just worked out that way,” Donnelly said. “A head of football is something that has developed over the last 10 to 15 years. If there is a view to get one, why wouldn’t I? In 2017 everything seemed to work, there wasn’t a pressure to get one. Now we’re losing games, we need to address it. If we need a head of football, we’ll get one.

  • Brian smith really!!!!
  • Well he should have signed Smith when he came out for a chat instead of say he was asking too much.

We need to be pro active not reactional to problems, i feel as though Max is trying to defend weekend at Bernies here.

  • Weve seen the last of Kenny in eels colours i think, sad situation for all.

  • Reactive management.
The signs were there in  that the roster was aging and without development progression. There's no doubt the writing was on the wall that Parramatta we're overachieving without a dominant forward pack.

    • Yeah the roster is aging Chief. Here's the ages of our squad this year:

      19

      Salmon

      20

      Mahoney

      21

      Aukafolau

      Leleisiuao

      Stone

      22

      French

      Niukore (off contract)

      23

      Davis (off contract)

      Moeroa

      24

      Gutherson

      Moses

      Pritchard (off contract)

      25

      Alvaro

      Brown

      G. Jennings (off contract)

      26

      Auva'a (off contract)

      Evans

      Smith

      27

      King (off contract)

      Norman

      Terepo (off contract)

      29

      Edwards

      Takairangi

      Vave (off contract)

      30

      Hayne (off contract)

      Hoffman

      M. Jennings

      Mannah

      Matagi (off contract)

      Ma'u

      Williams (off contract)

      33

      Gower (off contract)

      34

      Scott (off contract)

Now that all our rebuilding contracts are expiring the oldest blokes in our squad next year will be 31, and only four of them. Hoffman is already out of the top 17.

      • Pou Pou you are obviously putting facts in the way of an organised slander campaign to get BA sacked by a group who have decided that Smith would be better.

      • Pou is in total denial.

Tell us pou - do we need a clean out - yes

How many of our forward pack would make the dragons, Penrith or any top teams starting side mate. I'm sure you'll be pulling another statistic out of your inner depths

    • Chief i have to ask, was the roster aging 6 months ago after we made the top 4?

      • Yes it was 100% definitely. I made blogs in every year on why we were buying olders statesmen rather than keeping the Twals, Aloai, Matteson ect.

Ba always went experienced in the forwards with Watmough Scott Frichard gower willams Vave Matagi.... now the bubble has burst and we need a total cleanout wake up

Mitchy you should have known this without asking me

  • "I’m happy to have a head of football, it was not that I consciously decided not to have one, it just worked out that way,”

This seriously sounds like something Steve Sharp would've said.

WTF kind of rubbish is this coming from our chariman?
