Yes I know another blog. Really the deal with Moanly just doesn't add up. Why would a player, particularly a player in demand, not put himself on the open market.

Admittedly the highest offers would likely come from clubs outside the top 8 and he might want to play in a top 8 club. Countering this argument is that next year at Moanly there is only half the halves combination and a rookie coach, definitely not a guarantee of a top 8 finish. Additionally, unless you live on the peninsula, access to Manly is difficult except perhaps by ferry. Another thing that does not add up is they got rid of a few players due to cap problems, including Gutherson, and bought well so how are they going to fit him under the cap? What other players are they going to get rid of? (Maybe an opportunity for Parra to pick up another good player.)

Regardless it all seems a bit strange that a player of his calibre would not test the market.

  • He did test the market and that's how he ended up at Manly. No doubt they've offered the most amount of money and it's why they're having to shed 4-5 players to accommodate him. They'll have a good top 17 next season but any injury, especially in the forwards will leave them struggling.

    • When did he test the market Ham? Its all been hush hush that he would even be released by Souffs.

  • So you don't think his manager would have sounded out clubs behind closed doors? Surely you aren't that naive.

  • so he has sign with manly or he going to sign with manly witch one is it

    • Manly have some quality young backs in their ranks that have been performing well in NYC this year.
Wouldn't be surprised if they get a call-up to NSW Cup next year and potentially first-grade once Matai & Lyon retire.
      Their club rates them highly.

  • If he didn't test the market he would be staying at Souths. Do you think that he would only be dealing with Manly?

    • I thought it was a SOO star
      Probably Klemmer
      Or maybe Guerra
  • We make one notable signing, Foran and there's jizz flying all over the place. Our other signings are average at best.

Then I hear from the usual suspects Manly will be wooden spoon favourites next year and will be down the bottom for a while, club in crisis etc etc. Look at their signings and more to come. Internationals galore. We sign one FFS, plus a semi retired SOO player.

Our club needs to have a REAL close look at whatever it is the Eagles are doing because they miss the semis once and they do everything in their power to get back in it the next year.

We are the kings of the 5 year plan. In rugby league the good teams rip them up and just go hard in the market, hire the best coaches and hire the best people for the front office.
