Dolphin dominoes

I have been reading alot of different post about player value and such recently, and not really seen anyone comment on the following point. By adding a team who can add another million dollar player and several 750k+ players, what were previously held and accurate player valuations, are now undervalued. There is now an extra 9.5 million dollars (or whatever the cap is currently at) going to a largely unchanged player base. This means players that may have been worth 300k, and now in with a real shot at getting 500k, 500k players getting 650-700k etc.

It is my opinion that this addition of player worth may play a bit of havoc with the mid level players more so than top tier players, with teh exception there will now be 2-3 more players hitting that 800k+ tier. Top tier players (Turbo, Teddy etc) are not going to get much more as they take a a fair chunk of the % of cap already, so wouldnt make sense to chew up more of that %. This could take 1-2 years to settle down and even out before people get used to 'the new normal' of player values.

In light of this, is paying Papali'i 600k a season unreasonable? Probably not. That doesnt necassarily mean that the Eels should be paying this, as they have an existing cap to manage. Epect to see a lot more of this though, players on around 300-400k suddenly getting offers of 500-600k, which will have an initial reaction of fans saying they are paying overs.

  • Agree, i mentioned this the other day with similar observations.

600K for papa is actually a good deal for the tigers imo, hes on the upward curve and has plenty of skills.

We will end up paying that to buy in somebody not as good

    • I really hope I am wrong, but I can see game quality standards dipping slighly. On average every team will need to now include 2 starting players that were not starting quality pre dolphins. As Rorters and Storm are probably not included in that group, that ups it to some teams having 3 players that were not previously starters.

    • Lol how are you coming up with this assumption.

They won't do that if anything they'll work and find the next Papalii Ma'u Nuikore type that's there DNA at the position. There actually quite good at finding and making players clubs don't want into real players especially at that back row position.

All our backrowers are pretty much that.

  • Papali is only a 600K player as we transformed him into one. If he was a 600k player in January we wouldn't have had him on our roster in the first place. As it stands we have him on our roster for fuck all next year and 15 other clubs don't.

BA obviously has the next Ice in mind otherwise we'd have probably paid the 550k to keep him.  People need to relax a little. I'm more concerned we have a 600k fullback we might end up paying 800k+ for than I am about losing a scrap heap back rower we turned into a top shelf player. That , is a task I'm confident we can do again.

    • Yes - it will be an absolute disaster if we panic and pay  Gutherson overs. We have to be strong and keep out the background noise.

      • If we pay that guy one cent more than our initial offer and release these two thatve signed elsewhere early to do it then I'm done. You may as well call me Wizard Titan and start making threads about me jumping ship too.

  • A 17th team puts about 6%  increase in the pool  yet you believe a 300k player can get up to  66% more  and a 500k can get between 30 and 40% more.?

And don't forget 30 more players have to be paid.

    • Well the million dollar players are unlikely to get much more, and the minimum wage guys are unlikely to get much more, so the lions share of that will go to the middle range, so yeah, I may be a touch off, but not much.
