  • I said it elsewhere - thrown into the deep end of a nasty shark infested pool with little to no notice and came out almost unscathed.

    These kids deserve a chance.

Competition for a spot in the team is healthy imo.

    • Has to be a centre if he can get his defence right.

Does not have the size to be a modern winger bringing the ball back.

      • Did you watch his defence reads in the interview EG?  He was thrown in pretty much before breakfast on his debut day, and he took a couple of pretty seasoned backs in the game on display.

        • He did alright. My concern is he hasn't been game planned for. I won't pretend to be an oracle, but I consider myself to be a decent judge of young talent. Unless he can put on 10KG of muscle without losing pace, I wouldn't trust him on the wing. Gutho isn't a strong enough FB for him to pass the ball off to, so he needs to be strong on kick returns.

My tip for winger either this year or next? Solomone Naiduki. Got a mention in TCT recently. Have a family member involved in Fiji rugby who reckons his floor is Sivo, ceiling Semi.

          • From the training reports, he has bulked up since last season, also in an interview seems he played centre more than on the wing in his Jnr career. His training reports also indicate that he still has the speed along with other skills showing out.

Whether he claims an NRL spot this year will depend on the pecking ladder and how some of the other players perform, especially the older backs, & if the club signs other players, the MJ situation may determine one spot, also injuries to a particular player who I doubt will get through the season.

    • We cant say yet . Everybody thought Ethan Parry was something special . Only time will tell

  • Her 6"2 and 90 odd kg Fergo is 6"3 100 kg but would have been 90 odd kg at Dunsters age.Not saying he will be as good as Fergo had been but hes  certainly big enough.Would like to see more minutes before I judge his ability but I hope he succeeds as every Eels supporter should.

    • Eggman, any idea about how a coaching team assesses how much bulk someone can add before they lose too much speed and agility?

Just curious whether some athletes can do it, others not?

      • Believe it or not ,I have been through this in my own playing career, starting as a winger and being shifted to second row ,needing to put on about 10 kilos in one off season.10 kilos is a lot and as muscle mass virtually impossible in a short amount of time.It will take him a couple of years to get the balance right, legs for explosive speed, weights and protein and lots of.In my experience 10 kilos slowed me right down and fitness suffered overrall But I'm only 5"10 ideal weight 85 going up to 95.At 6"2 and 90 kilos and 19 years old he is doing well also still growing and should be able to gain 5-10kg of muscle without affecting his speed and fitness.

        • Eggman, I kind of went through a similar bulking up phase last year. But it was just getting a bit fat  and old(er) during The Big Lockdowns in Melbourne! I will shred it this year. I will shred it this year. I will ...

"Obviously he would have spoken to the staff before signing. Green being the attack coach more likely detailing what he has planned for Brown."
