Do we have the best backline in the Comp?

French, Hayne, Guth, Mitch, Corey, Smith, A'auva, Hoffman and Jenko is probably the best ever since our famour 80's backline with Taylor, Grothe, Hunt, Liddiard, The Crow,Zip-Zip, Kenny, Sterling and Grothe.

Does anyone think any other team in the comp is as strong?

Maybe the Roosters with their salary-cap rorting would match us.

  • I agree mate this year is our best year since 2009 to try and lift the trophy. We've got a window of opportunity next 2 years to do something special.
    • Our 2001 team coached by Brian Smith, still holds the record for having the best defensive record and the best attacking record for a season in NRL history. We didn't win the comp that year but boy, did we score some tries. That's when Hindy was scoring tries from all over the field.

Lyon & Vaeleki in the centres. Grothe jnr and I think Moodie on the wings. Or was it Pat Richards & Grothe? Lol, or was it Grothe & Luke Burt? Brett Hodgson fullback. Michael Buettner and Jason Taylor in the halves. Taylor smashed all goal kicking records.

This team were nicknamed "Brians' Babes" in reference to the famous old St.George team nicknamed "Baths' Babes" when Harry Bath was their coach.

    • I thought it was Paul Mares, but it could be Hunt.
  • You'll probably find wing is our only so-so position. Don't get me wrong I think our wingers could work for us, I just don't think they are even remotely close to the best in the comp. I also think we have the best depth in backline players (except, once again, for the wing positions).
    • Hunt and Liddiard although fast weren't really that great and Taylor was poor whilst attacking (although a great tackling machine). I always envied Gary Jack how he'd link up with the Tigers defence. He was the 1st modern full back. He was marvellous on the burst after a scrum. Yet, we had Kenny, Price, Crow, Sterlo and Grothe that could make something out of nothing with a moments brilliance or simply fending off a defender and creating and overlap like the Crow and Grothe.

    • And Elle On The Hill, he was electric.
  • Once gutho comes back yes
  • Roosters and Storm

  • Unfortunately that team remains unsung because they didnt win anything, never mind make 5 grand finals.

  • I've forgetten about him already. Can't look back in anger.

"He was provided all the legal advice before signing the release and understood the stipulations. Just because R360 didn't eventuate doesn't mean he can force his way out of it lol. Spoilt brat defence is not going to work for Lomax or the storm 🤣 "

"LB, Eli, good stuff gents. We've acted in good-faith. By the book. With clean hands. Lomax appears not to. Still, equity is not unlikely to view an NRL-wide 3-year restraint until 31Oct 28' as overly-punitive and read it down.
We'd still win,…"
